A waterfront fieldhouse featuring a 5,000 square-foot indoor, competition-grade turf field, strength and conditioning zone, outdoor bullpen and fitness area, a dedicated classroom with on-site parking is the latest addition to Bobby Christoph’s Steelpointe Harbor redevelopment area, across the Pequonnock River, close to Downtown.
Mayor Joe Ganim and Christoph cut the ribbon for the opening of Steelpointe Athletics on Waterview Avenue.

Where is the usual ‘media blitz’ on this exciting new facility? Where are members of the City Council or Recreation Board? Is this a for profit investment by a private investor without public financial support? No info seems available at this moment. Does the CT Post or TV12 know about this?
On the same day OIB covers Senator Herron K Gaston on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, where is the diversity, equity , and inclusion for Bridgeport youth? Swimming programs are so minimal as to be a public safety hazard in Bridgeport with too many never learning the safety protocols and skills necessary for enjoyment and life extension. How many of the youth in the photograph, rest their heads on a pillow in Bridgeport each night before attending local schools? How does this serve all of the folks seeking recreational activity? Time will te..
Shit John did you did you lay your eyes on the picture outside of those kids who don’t rest her head on pillows each night before attending local schools? Of course there is no media blitz, that place exactly screaming state of the art 🤣
Though to be fair, not sure the program trainning structure or if it’s a paid service. However looking at the Caucasian -ISH of the youth in the promo/picture I would have to estimate your point on how many of those youths in the photograph, rest your heads on pillows in Bridgeport before attending local schools is
Is race beating, and promotes/trains racial motivated resentment that plays out in our racial identity politics. 🙃
Young Athletes is stated in the title.
A new athletic facility, likely more oriented to “young athletes” from the suburbs from the photos and no swimming facility or basketball courts, how does this meet the broader recreational activities of ALL Bridgeport youth?
When a Mayor is in the picture, whom is he representing? And if the Steelpointe ‘branding’ has anything to do with the former real estate ownership of the properties assembled by the City, where does this represent the DIVERSITY, EQUITY, and INCLUSION identified by Senator Gaston on another posting about the two year budget proposed by Governor Lamont? Who sits at the City table where plans for youth, recreational and otherwise, is discussed, discovered, and activated, gentlemen? Time will tell.
Can Senator Gaston point out a Hispanic, African American, Bridgeport resident in the photo?
Oh shit, look, there’s a tanned kid in front of number 23.
Yes youth Athletics is in the title, point being?
Perhaps it is oriented to the suburbs, but are you saying the suburbs don’t swim or play basketball?
“where does this represent the DIVERSITY, EQUITY, and INCLUSION identified by Senator Gaston on another posting about the two year budget proposed by Governor Lamont? Who sits at the City table where plans for youth, recreational and otherwise, is discussed, discovered, and activated, gentlemen?
I have no clue John, I don’t know how you correlate a Youth Athletic Facility to Reverend/ Gaston. That G2 attended the ribbon cutting. Though I am sure you had some rationale.
As to why Joe was in the picture, I am sure it’s about branding the Steelepoint project/investment, himself, in the Port, though to your point not much of a media blitz. I can assume they are a tax bass facility.
As to your, ” represent the DIVERSITY, EQUITY, and INCLUSION ” where do you draw the line when the suburbs youth cannot partake in an athletic training facility in the port? I mean , what does it mean to be a Diverse diverse if the suburbs youth are barred in the Port, Equity if only for the Port youth can use the youth facility, and Inclusion, burbs do not apply.
John I’m going to rephrase. It’s oriented for families with disposable income who wants to send their child to this facility. There is a monetary capitalistic business venture to this so I don’t think it excludes the youths from the Port whose family I have that type of disposable income. I’m sure there is an element to his development.
I think a better way to frame your sentiment better than to inject DEI regarding Senator Gaston and P Lamont is ask is there enough facilities and housing to make them affordable to the average Port resident, and are you doing enough to alleviate the explosion in rent price on the people.
As of now it would seem based on supply and demand, the supply in housing is low, that’s driving up the price of housing. Until the government steps up taking action to increase the supply , with various means like investing in low interest loans to build more housing, tax incentives to make housing more affordable based on capitalism principles of the free market, we get what we get.
Right now capitalist, would want the highest rent possible. I would assume to build to lower rent based on Supply they’re going to need some Financial incentives to offset their investment, no?
So I guess this is where the government supposed to step in and balance out the equation and one form of another. JS
Can Senator Gaston point out a Hispanic, African American, Bridgeport resident in the photo?
Oh shit, look, there’s a tanned kid in front of number 23.
Such little information. what sports are they catering to? It’s totally private? Can be a great thing but these places don’t seem to ever last. They tend to get to expensive to maintain. I have to thing they are catering to the SUBURBS. The inner city kids parents won’t spend the money on specialized training
Agreed, but you never know. Perhaps also all utilizing the space and some fashion locking down the land for future development for what I would have to assume is a vision towards entertainment/ Sports destination for the Port.
That being said, it’s a private business adventure so there’s perhaps no government funding backing to pay for the families who can’t afford to participate in this training facility for the youth.
While John had his rationale to address the subject he hit on a point regarding the media or lack of regarding this so-called ribbon cutting which seems kind of you know shot from the hip, and I am also sure G2 had his rationale to create such an off the cuff ribbing cutting that seems to be pretty late after it’s opening just saying.
Ok, try to play nice people
PS they have a handful of program/training

John, I know G2’s rationale for this event. He has the political philosophy of Pringles. He was in his office and found a extra red ribbon in his desk draw and said, “get some scissors.” 🤣
