From the Film Fest
Led by Bridgeport Native and Artistic Director Jason A. Coombs, the festival aims to highlight the diversity of the film community in Bridgeport and the surrounding regions by showcasing films directed by over 50% women and POC filmmakers. The programming team will curate a lineup that includes short narrative films, short documentary projects, music videos, student films, environmental-themed works and more. In a ceremony that concludes the weekend, prizes will be awarded to winning films chosen by a panel of acclaimed jurors.
Keeping true to the festival’s mission of “changing the narrative”, there will be brand new virtual reality based storytelling workshops featuring ‘VR for Good’ which aims to foster immersive storytelling, focused on social impact. Through guided experiences and conversations the VR helps to bridge the gap between communities and highlights the treatment of people belonging to any race, religion, gender, and sexual identity. Finally, these stories will promote connection, empathy and equality.
In addition, Women in Film and Video New England is hosting a Film Production Workshop. The goal of the Production Assistant Workshop is to provide individuals from the diverse and underserved community of Bridgeport and beyond with training for entry-level positions in film production and access to employers in the metro New York City production industry. Guests of the workshop will learn the foundation of working on a professional set from call sheets, to finding work, on set standards and how to work collaboratively with local communities when they shoot on location.
