The second time in as many days!
Looks like Ralphie is putting his Christmas gift to use.
What happened so early in this kid’s life?
Favorite Xmas movie. This is just sad!
You wonder if people know who this is, why hasn’t he been stopped? He is well on his way to being an adult offender.
He has to be stopped right now before something bad happens, he might run up on someone who has something bigger than a BB gun.
Has Senator Murphy introduced legislation to ban BB guns yet?
BB guns are already banned in Bridgeport. I went to Bass Pro looking for one to chase off water rats and was told they are illegal under a city ordinance. I could buy a 12-gauge or a 30-30 or .9 mm or a crossbow; but no Daisy Red Rider BB guns.
So far only five comments, but this is indeed a serious red flag that far more attention should be paid to. This 15-year-old is only using a BB gun but getting a real gun is a very possible and easy next step. At 15, this young man is close to being lost and the odds are he will live a life of crime unless somehow he is helped through some extraordinary way. But if he gets passed through the “system,” his future looks dim. There is the old adage; “If you live by the gun, you will die by the gun.” Statistics prove this out. The NRA and their supporters have become so misguided, polarized, unyielding and so extreme in their views. Republicans want to make it easier to get a gun and make it harder to vote. What type of democracy will we have if guns are more important than voting? Making light of introducing legislation to ban bb guns is not funny; it is rather sad.
This segues into the state of our educational system here in Bridgeport and the current BOE stand-off. A values system needs to be inculcated into a child as early as Pre-K through 5th/6th grade. Afterwards, it is usually too late. Unfortunately, urban schools need to act literally as surrogate parents. I read an interesting article where in urban centers, schools are re-thought of as “children centers.” This goes beyond the three R’s and just the classroom. Unfortunately, this is also very expensive. However, a high crime rate and incarceration are significantly more expensive.
I would have grabbed the pellet gun and beaten that kid senseless.
There are a lot things that are illegal but it never stops anyone from getting their hands on something no matter what the penalty is for having it. Perhaps that allure makes contraband what it is.
There is another cliche too. It takes a village to raise a child. Perhaps if more people called kids when they are doing the wrong thing perhaps more kids would do right things.
Far too many people look the other way unless it affects them.
