State Rep. Andres Ayala is off to a fast start raising money as he eyes the seat occupied by State Senator Ed Gomes. The latest financial disclosure period that ended March 31 shows Ayala has raised more than $12,000 in an exploratory committee that he can roll into a candidate committee. Ernie Newton, who’s seeking to reclaim his old State Senate seat, has raised more than $4,000 according to his filing with State Elections Enforcement Commission. Gomes, who has not announced if he will seek reelection, has not formed a committee.
Ayala and Newton are trying to qualify for Connecticut’s public financing system. The ultimate goal is to raise $15,000 in small donations to reach the $100K jackpot for an expected Democratic primary in August. If they qualify they will have the same amount to spend. They are also schmoozing delegates for support at the party convention next month. The highest donation allowed is $100. The Ayala and Newton reports are filled with $5 and $10 donations. One notable $100 contributor to Ayala is Paul Timpanelli, president of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. One for Newton is land use attorney Ray Rizio.

My money is on Ernie, the phoenix of his people.
Andres Ayala is not only the most qualified for the state senate, but even Finch’s office has stated he is most qualified to be the next mayor of Bpt.
