Amphitheater Approval On City Council Agenda

Historically, City Council meetings on the eve of the general election are quick affairs. Council incumbents want an expedited meeting to churn some last minute campaigning. Several council incumbents, however, were defeated in Democratic primaries or did not seek reelection. A key item on Monday night’s agenda is the Contracts Committee report recommending approval of the operating agreement with Harbor Yard Amphitheater, LLC, a venture of concert promoter Live Nation and sports-entertainment entrepreneur Howard Saffan to transform the Ballpark at Harbor Yard into a warm-weather amphitheater projected to open spring of 2019.

The city will split $15 million in improvements with the developer at the city-owned venue financed from the capital improvement fund. See contract here. The amphitheater deal is listed under the consent calendar where items are grouped as one, but it could be pulled out by the council for discussion. A public hearing on the matter took place Monday night. Agenda follows:
