Airport Upgrades, Rejected Drone Contract On City Council Agenda

The next City Council meeting will take place Tuesday due to the MLK holiday. A joint council committee early last week overwhelmingly rejected a contract to provide drones to municipal law enforcement. That action is on the agenda as a “denied” measure, likely more a matter of course than trying to reverse enough votes for passage.

  1. The new Bridgeport City Council is collectively clueless — as evidenced by their short-sighted, regressive rejection of the already-funded drone program and their general modus operandi with respect to their failure to solicit and consider and public/constituent opinion, which is generally devalued if offered.

The improvements at the airport are being proposed without benefit of a long-term, carefully considered plan for the airport and its future. Will the City Council table these proposals until a futuristic plan, crafted by experts, with constituent input, can be created and “improvements” to the airport considered in that context?

(In a related, but divergent context: Why are council members accused of multiple crimes, with trials pending, serving and voting on the council while awaiting justice?!…)

(What is happening with the Success Apartments scandal? Why haven’t any BOD members yet been held accountable for their fiscal fiasco? A cover-up maybe? Who might be involved that’s being protected, and by whom?)

  2. Lennie, what’s the model, make and number of the Flock Drone? JML is the only one who stated having read the 60 page contract, perhaps he will share this with us.

  3. Speedy,
I read your personal sendup of your birth date, November 22, 1964.
At 61 years of age, having enjoyed commenting on City governance, both before and after employment with the Police Department, you have the same rights as a Bridgeport citizen to research, and report on the Flock agreement. Why ask me to share “model, make, and number” of the drone lease? You have access to the detail of the agreement. Why is such info important in the face of nearly unanimous decision by members of two City Council subcommittees, where the cost or expense to the City was already not at issue for two years, where the Police, Fire, and Emergency departments were in agreement that the lease was positive, and there were members of the public with comments who were not provided an opportunity to speak???
Speedy, why are you not reading the agreement provided by the City and asking someone else to do the work? Why are you now getting down to specific info, which in your mind is relevant? Will you be speaking on Tuesday evening about Flock, City Council processes, or urging opportunity for the public to participate in info gathering related to City longer term planning, including value and need for solutions, and timelines that may be relied upon? Time will tell.

  4. Because you’re the only one who stated having read the 60 page contract. Maria Pereira may just be the only council member to read the 60 page contract. Instead of asking a thousand questions, Mr. CIVICS could have just posted a link of anything that may be helpful.

Lennie, is there a link to this Flock agreement? I bet the agreement lacks detail specifications of the drone. By all indications, it’s a $30,000.
