News release from Shawn Wooden, Democratic candidate for state treasurer:
Last evening, AFSCME Council 4’s Delegate Assembly endorsed Shawn Wooden for Connecticut State Treasurer.
“Shawn has a long history of advocating for working people and protecting the assets of public pensions funds,” said Council 4 Executive Director Jody Barr. “Shawn fundamentally believes that every American should be able to retire with dignity. We are proud to endorse him.”
Council 4 is affiliated the 1.6 million member AFSCME International Union in Washington, D.C. and represents 30,000 workers in Connecticut state and local government, boards of education and the private sector. Council 4 members work in a diverse range of occupations (technical, blue collar, professional, clerical and more) and professions (health care, corrections and law enforcement, welfare and social services, public workers, K-12 education and higher education and more).
In today’s challenging workplace environment, the mission of Council 4 is to deliver fair contracts that provide members with decent pay and benefits, employment security and a real voice on the job while standing at the forefront of the fight for strong public services and fair budgets.
“I am honored to stand with the hard working women and men of AFSCME and I am proud that they have endorsed my candidacy for State Treasurer. As the youngest of six kids raised in North Hartford, I know what it is like to struggle, to see your neighbors struggle. That experience has driven to do everything in my power to forge a better path forward for working families, including my work for the AFL-CIO’s Office of Investment, my work on behalf of public pension funds and my work in state and local government. I look forward to bringing my experience and progressive values to the State Treasurer’s Office to help Connecticut.
