So talk about sardonic wit. Some wiseacre propped this sign on the acreage of Veteran’s Memorial Park in the North End. “In memory of all those who served Mayor Joseph P. Ganim.” Feel free to guess the author.

Is it a Speed–y Trap?
I’m guessing Jim Fox.
At the rate he is going, Ganim 2 is going to go down in history as the worst mayor in the history of Bridgeport. Remember he sold Veterans Park to SHU and 8 acres of golf course wetlands also to SHU. For all those who wanted a four-year term for mayor, look what we have been stuck with for the last 10 years.
Is there anyone here who thinks Finch would have had more than two terms if the mayor only served two-year terms?
Andy, what you’re saying is true, time has proven that. I told the circumstances surrounding that four-year term in a previous blog. John Brannelly’s plea will forever be etched in my mind. It’s very difficult to get beyond an elected official holding a City job. We were outnumbered when that question came before the council. I know a lot of opinions, folklore and commentaries are shared on “Only In Bridgeport,” but some history is worth reading and remembering. There are not many of us left to share it, and if the next round of politicians doesn’t pay attention, they’ll relive what we lived through.
Eric Alicea.
In the event anyone reads the comments to this issue, I want to clarify former Councilmember John Brannelly warned of the consequences of a four-year term for Mayor, his speech was compelling as were his reasons why this was not the way to go in Bridgeport. I reread my comment, and didn’t want any misunderstanding. John Brannelly warned of this while he served on the CC. Because the majority of members were already contaminated by the City jobs they were given for their votes, we lost!
