The regional community response to the Charles Street and Frenchtown Road families displaced by fires was enormous, according to city officials. In the past few weeks city officials led a community effort to distribute clothing and furnishings following the outpouring of support. The goodwill support accommodated victims needs but surplus items are available.
Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Gina Malheiro will lead a mayor’s office community effort this Saturday January 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the shipyard located at 837 Seaview Avenue to distribute excess clothing and furnishings to needy citizens and community groups. Needy citizens are invited to select leftover items inside the old shipyard warehouse set up as a distribution center. For more information contact Gina Malheiro at 203-727-4045. Any items left over will be distributed to Goodwill Industries.
“Needy” “leftover” demeaning! Donate all the items to Goodwill! It is a good cause. Problem solved. So many people have taken so much time and effort as well as personal expense to care for those unfortunate residents of Charles Street. Just deliver it to Goodwill. It is a very respectable organization and the proceeds go to a very good cause.
Goodwill is a sham of an organization. Their CEO gets a hefty paycheck profiting off hardworking people’s donations. Rescue Mission is a much better place to donate to as they cater to all the needy in Bridgeport.
I did not know that, but I do donate to Goodwill and buy all my James Patterson hardcover books in Westport for $2 each. I thought they were a very reputable organization for 30 years!
Oh. And by the way, big shout-out to Mayor Ganim’s astute and effective gift for being a leader of people!
What wording was used is hardly the case in this specific. It seems once again, you’re trying to instigate division where there should be compassion. At least from someone like yourself, who purports to be an intelligent being.
Here is what’s relative and relevant: a fire that put 120 on the street, their physical environment up in ashes.
What happened was not only an immeasurable dedication of time and energy from Gina Malheiro, but from the entire CAO staff led by John Gomes, and all of whom were first led by the Mayor’s office. It was one of the revelations of how quietly and quickly the Ganim Administration works as a team, with everyone on board.
They’re an amazing force and they are eager and willing to leave the building to help others.
Regardless of wording, consider the response from Ganim’s office to this fire. It is a valid demonstration of a new level of city assistance in its spirit and its connection to reality.
I think, if asked, our friend John Marshall Lee will find in handling the Charles Street fire, with displacement of 120 individuals, we have seen openness, accountability and transparency.
Carolanne, just to be clear, I was not instigating. I made reference with two words. I did not mention a word about Joe, John or anyone in the administration. I believe Gina Malheiro is a capable woman as well as a top fundraiser for the Mayor. You need not go into an ass-kissing diatribe. Did they find a position for you yet or are you just on the taxpayer payroll trolling OIB trying to make like you are defending Gail? My comment was simple Carolanne, the families in the fire were taken care of. Let Goodwill do what they do. Simple! No need to address my comment. I do not think anyone in city hall or the city of Bridgeport acted any different with this administration. We do what we do because we are humane. Not because you, Joe, John Gail or anybody else you mentioned were in place. But on behalf of Joe Ganim I am certain he appreciates your instigating commentary. I look forward to the announcement of your appointment. That should go over big with Bridgeport residents!
