City Council Rejects Another Union Contract

Mayor Joe Ganim has complained about being saddled with bad decisions by defeated predecessor Bill Finch. Now Ganim is relying on Finch’s inaction as an argument for blocking another union contract from being implemented for 800 city and public school employees.

At the mayor’s urging, the City Council Monday voted down a five-year pact with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The deal would have given the members–700 of them school clerical workers, janitors, classroom aides and special education bus drivers–two years worth of retroactive, 3 percent raises; 2.5 percent pay increases in 2016 and 2017; and a 2 percent raise in 2018.

  1. *** Another Labor Union class action suit to go to the courts for a decision but you have to start somewhere, no? I have not heard anything else on the B&A’s committee preparations or any new ideas on their plans to review the city budget after it’s received from the new Mayor’s admin. come springtime.
