Finch Sends Foster Birthday Greetings

Finch card to Foster

Well, it’s a few weeks late, but better late than never, no? Democratic mayoral candidate Mary-Jane Foster says she’d be just fine not to receive a taxpayer-paid birthday card from Mayor Bill Finch.

“Three weeks late and I paid for it,” Foster declares in a statement attached to the card she received.

Foster has criticized Finch for using taxpayer dollars to mail birthday cards to voters in an election year, asserting he should use his campaign loot.

“It’s a primary year and time for the mayor to start spending taxpayer dollars to advance his re-election campaign,” she wrote in a December 2014 commentary.

Maybe next time the mayor will send Foster a singing telegram.

Hmm, and what’s the over/under on the mayor sending Joe Ganim a birthday card in October?

One thing is for certain, according to Foster: no birthday card wishes for Finch or Ganim.

  1. My Mother received a card from Mayor Finch also. I think you have to be a senior citizen. I think it is a nice gesture for seniors especially those without family and friends. I suppose receiving a card could make a lonely person’s day a little brighter.

My mother is 87 and by the grace of G-d she is going strong and busier than anyone I know. She still receives many cards but many of her friends seem to be going frequently, so I guess a friendly card at the taxpayers’ expense is not so awful–or is it????????? G-d I do not even know right from wrong anymore. Is this really a campaign issue??? This is not the first card she has received.

  2. Counterfeit Bill has no problem spending other people’s money. I’m sure City Attorney Hamilton Burger gave him the legal okay. What a real loser.

  3. Was this post really from a December 2014 commentary? Six months ago? Who in hell are her advisers??? I wonder how the commentary plays out at senior citizen homes where absentee ballots are the thing. Well, you have to pick your battles and I guess team Foster thinks this scandalous Birthday-gate is going to gain steam.

If I were Mary-Jane I’d go after Ganim. Finch would be wise to not address any candidate. Ganim treats Foster like she doesn’t exist and Foster is giving all the anti-Finch votes to Ganim and trying to get some of the staunch Finch supporters. Birthday cards? It’s like a flea bite on the ankle. Let’s get the vision for downtown, Steelpointe and the East End.

So I was at Columbus school today and the Park and playground should be complete during the summer. It is nice it will be viewed on Madison as well as George Street. What a nice addition to the Hollow. The kids are extremely excited and that is a good thing unless you are the Mayor’s opposition.

  4. Steve, no way should MJF go after anyone, she should go after what is best for Bridgeport. Finch needs somebody to attack Joe Ganim because he knows he will lose to Joe and Joe has put a target on Finch.

    1. Sorry Ron, so Finch will win in a landslide. Joe Ganim will capture all of the Anti-Finch votes and Mary-Jane Foster will limp across the finish line in a distant third. I am glad my advice is not taken. Don’t even know why I offered. Good luck to you though. Money Money Money … Steelpointe Steelpointe Steelpointe. I hope I do not hear about birthday cards again. It is embarrassing. And so scandalous!!!

    2. Ron, just so I understand your post. Joe has put a target on Finch’s back (totally laughable) and Joe will win? Are you confused or is that the ambivalent passion you have for Foster’s campaign. So you expect Joe Ganim to win?

  5. Spending other people’s money.

My father passed away four years ago. Late in May, a birthday card was sent to my home … wishing my dad a happy birthday … from the Mayor’s Office. Go figure.

  6. Steve,
Hail to your Mom who you admit is going strong and “busier than anyone you know.” Is she an example to you? Well get busy then, and I do not mean being one person with five of the eight posts on this thread including my message to you. Do you realize your battle to promote Bill Finch is appearing to make you seem pathetic? And since you are the only regular cheerleader for certain City developments and yet are unwilling to answer the larger questions asked about those same City activities that are regularly asked, your support is beginning to provide an image of the Circus parade of Finch and Associates where after all the bands, clowns, wild animals, tumblers and gymnasts and elephant train there comes the man with the shovel, the broom, and the little poop wagon. Stars in his eyes because he’s in “show business.” Isn’t that Steve Auerbach? Time will tell.

  7. JML, as you can tell I am not a follower, as you can tell people respond to my posts. As the parade passes by, you have to realize Finch is already the elected leader by the people and of course at the end of the parade will be a man with a shovel, but seems it will not be me. You see where this is going, John Marshall Lee? It will be none other than yourself and the shovel you so comically show up with at city hall events. You sir will be shoveling shit, I do not need to show up at the parade. Good post, though.

Btw JML, are you still supporting Howard Gardner? Am I the only Democrat who received Mayor Finches, I’m proud to be an Irishmen green three-color advertisement today in the mail? Just a reminder, tomorrow is the “Big Announcement,” yes I am excited and I am sure there will be at least 10 people there. I like small intimate gatherings. John Marshall Lee, will you be picketing outside Captain’s Cove? It should be a very exciting two hours, John. After all, Bridgeport is getting better every day!

    1. CT Post: Councilwoman angry over tax break meeting

Posted on June 10, 2015 | By Brian Lockhart

Bridgeport City Councilwoman Trish Swain, D-132, was not happy to read earlier this week in the Connecticut Post that Mayor Bill Finch’s administration held a private meeting with four of her colleagues about their opposition to a controversial tax break for a politically-connected Stamford-based developer.

Swain fired off the following email to the rest of the City Council, Finch and some of his staff:

To my fellow Council Members and members of the Administration,

Why is it that I am learning about a special meeting held on the JHM tax credit deal in the morning paper? Four of the twenty Council members were invited–why not all twenty? This is the kind of activity that frustrates me to no end. …

  8. Steve Auerbach, there must be other OIB viewers and bloggers besides yourself who can say something positive about Mayor Finch. Steve, Finch is scared to death about Joe Ganim running for mayor because he knows he can’t beat him. Steve, this is Bridgeport and strange things happen here during elections.

    1. Ron, are you supporting Mary-Jane Foster or Joe Ganim??? If Bill Finch is concerned about beating a convicted felon then he should not be the Mayor.

      0
      1. Mr. Auerback–sad, but a true statement. Bill Finch is scared of Joe Ganim running. He is scared shitless, as they say. Finch knows Ganim can beat him. That is exactly why he should NOT be Mayor. Think about it: A two-term incumbent Mayor should not even be challenged by anybody, let alone by a former Mayor turned ex-felon who did nine years in the pen. It is painfully obvious Finch is running scared. Look at what he’s doing. He is shoving this tax abatement deal up the asses and down the throats of city taxpayers. Heck, he actually physically assaulted a councilman over it. Why is he so desperate? Because he knows he won’t beat Ganim. So apparently getting this tax deal passed is his golden parachute. Finch is not pushing this disrespectful nonsense for what he deems is good and in the best interest for the City. Heck no! This tax abatement deal is all about him and his future. Somebody has promised him a job. The developer has long, strong ties to Gov. Malloy, so my guess would be this developer is calling in a favor from Malloy to rescue Finch from the beat-down he’s going to take at the polls. This from a Finch supporter, or should I say former Finch supporter. Finch lost my respect when he refused to reissue a revised recruitment effort for the police department. He lost my support the day he brought that ridiculous tax deal before the council praising his economic development staff.

        1. Valkyrie, I totally respect your post. I do not know what the desire of the Mayor is for pushing this project through. Not being a personal recipient of any benefit of the project, I do believe in reasonable abatements, I do believe the neighborhood would benefit and this added project could stimulate more economic growth in the community that has been so grossly underserved during the Ganim administration and before. I see local business benefiting from it as well as construction jobs. Of course I do not support a 35-year abatement.
I do not believe Mayor Finch is looking for a state job. I believe Bridgeport’s rebirth during Finch’s next four years will make him a strong contender for Governor. Of course this is the narrative I would write for the Mayor. A councilman, a state Senator and a three-term Mayor turning the state’s largest city around. That is a narrative I can support and would he good for Bridgeport. I wish all of the candidates well. I do not believe Ganim is an issue but find it curious and amazing the Ganim camp is able to generate the Ganim narrative and the Foster camp is invisible. That is sad.

Valkyrie, I assume you are a Ganim supporter. I find it amazing you were a former Finch supporter and now that the city sees a little light at the end of the tunnel, you are willing to put our future on hold for one four-year term. Very curious indeed.
