The blizzard of 2013 was a nightmare for residents that turned into a gigantic toothache for Mayor Bill Finch: unplowed streets, some public works crews sent home, residents trapped in their homes for days. The mayor says for this storm they’re better prepared.

Asked how he will measure his administration’s success in handling the blizzard, Finch said, “What we always look at is, did anybody get hurt?”
Once that goal is achieved, Finch said, “I want this city to be traversable just as soon as humanly possible. If we could avoid missing more than two days of school and one day of work, that’s a success. “That’s what I’m aiming for and that’s what I hope we get.”
But he and other officials emphasized again and again Monday the need for residents to listen to the governor’s 9 p.m. travel ban, to move their cars off of snow emergency streets and to follow, where applicable, alternate-side-of-the-street parking to enable the plows to do their jobs.

I just received a message on my home phone from Mayor Finch. He closed his lengthy message with working together we can weather this storm and continue to make Bridgeport better every day. Thank God I hadn’t had my dinner yet.
I just received the same message. I’m about to throw marinated chicken on the grill with roasted peppers and garlic. A nice salad, corn and garlic mashed potatoes. Maria, that call did not ruin my appetite at all! 🙂

Just saw Rick Torres walking door to door assisting Black Rock folk in moving their cars off the street. God love him because it looks real nasty out there. Oops, just spilled a little cocoa typing that one. 🙂
The national guard has arrived in Black Rock to assist in getting cars parked on the correct side of the street or removed. Nothing like a uniformed military official with a sidearm to help citizens understand even-numbered side of the street. Giving the public works a standing ovation for getting help on the streets before it is too late.

I’m happy to be optimistic, and I’m happy to sprinkle sugar on certain food items; but for God’s sake, it’s a public-safety message! Can this guy turn off the canned spring snake/cheerleader bit for once?
I’m getting a little nervous, the plow truck has been up and down my street about 160 times today but I haven’t seen it for the last 20 minutes. I hope it didn’t get a flat tire or something like that. My wife said maybe they’re getting some sand or having dinner.
Maybe I’ll call the Mayor’s hotline again, it’s almost 30 minutes now … OH! good, here it comes again!!!

I reported misinformation. There is a person in Black Rock who owns a vehicle that looks like a National Guard truck. It was Councilman Torres pounding on doors and helping people move their cars. The truck that looked like a National Guard truck just happened to be on the street while our councilman was going door to door helping people find places to park. He was not wearing a sidearm.

Jennifer Buchanan, I find it interesting you felt compelled to correct misinformation you posted regarding whether the National Guard was in your neighborhood, however when you posted completely false and inaccurate information about me, you felt no need to acknowledge your error and post a retraction or apology. Sometimes a simple sorry can go a long way.

Ron Mackey, Rick Torres is not superman and may not get to the other side of his district, but can we agree it is a nice gesture to knock on doors in a familiar neighborhood to help the City enforce their mandate? After all, nobody is going to blame Mayor Finch and our councilmen for not communicating an impending storm. It just makes it so much more difficult when individuals go against the grain and stop an efficient attempt by our public works dept. KUDOS to Rick Torres. “THEY GOT IT WRONG,” thank goodness. The storm moved 50 miles east and we got saved.
