Parking Restrictions For Barack Visit

From Communications Director Brett Broesder:

In preparation for President Barack Obama and Gov. Dan Malloy visiting the state’s largest city for an event at Central High School on Sunday, Bridgeport officials are announcing street and parking restrictions while they’re in town.

As the U. S. Secret Service takes the lead on establishing parking restrictions before and during a visit by President Obama–which is their established protocol for any presidential event–the following street and parking restrictions will be in place:
Ø On-street parking ban: On Sunday, a mandatory on-street parking ban will be in effect for all vehicles on the following streets: Capitol Avenue (between Lindley Street and Park Avenue); Lincoln Boulevard (between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue); and Taft Avenue (between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue).
Ø Towing: For streets within the parking ban, vehicles will be towed starting at 8:00AM – 8:00PM on Sunday, November 2.
Ø Driving restrictions and recommendations: All streets within the parking ban area will be closed. And, motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid Main Street and Madison Avenue.
Ø Route recommendations : Traffic will likely be heavy across the city due to street closures. But if you’re driving on Sunday, the best route to travel through in this area is Park Avenue.
Ø Parking for ticketholders: Ticket holders SHOULD NOT park in the lots at Harbor Yard. The location for parking will be announced later today. People with questions should contact 203-576-7671.
Ø Tickets: Nobody will be admitted into the event without a ticket, and even for ticketholders, there will be no parking at Central High School.

  1. Hey Lennie,
Can you reach out to Brett Broesder and offer him a map of the city? Another embarrassment caused by too many out-of-towners.
Lincoln Blvd does not run between Madison and Park. Lincoln Avenue does. Lincoln Blvd runs from the front gate of Central High to Lincoln Ave. so my guess is it is supposed to be ALL of Lincoln Blvd and Lincoln Ave between Park and Madison.
But what of me? I’m just a former city council rep. I’m not the council president who was quoted in the Post article about the street closures. This is his district. This is his backyard (if he actually lives in Bridgeport). He should know.
