From School Volunteer Association:
The School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport (SVA) is seeking over 600 volunteers from Bridgeport and surrounding communities to join us for Read Aloud Day 2013 to share the joy of reading with every pre-kindergarten through sixth grade class in the Bridgeport Public Schools.
SVA will provide the wonderful children’s books for volunteers to read and then donate to the classroom libraries. Some readers will reveal how author Mark Teague’s characters in “The Three Little Pigs And The Somewhat Bad Wolf” discover how to enjoy potato chips and “sody-pop” together. Others will share the true story of “Goliath,” the firehouse horse who is the hero of the great Baltimore fire of 1904. The author, Claudia Friddell, will join us to read her own book to a fifth grade class.
Read Aloud Day will take place on October 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Register by calling the School Volunteer Office at 203-275-1120 or visit our website, www.svabridgeport.org for more information.
Read Aloud Day 2013 is made possible through the generosity of: AltruShare Securities, LLC; Bigelow Tea; Capital Power (Bridgeport Energy); Estate of Ruth Krauss; Fairfield University; Gexpro; NewCity Foundation; People’s United Bank and the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County.
I just called in to volunteer for this program. The program is fairly well filled but they still need to fill some holes. If you’re available please call their # and do your share for our children’s education.
*** Due to the overall poor academic performance in Bpt’s public schools, do you actually have to read the storybook or can you just point to the pictures and wing it so to speak? *** JUST SAYING, NO? ***
Mojo,
It’s better to light a candle than curse the dark.
*** Sorry, ran out of matches and with the only remaining dim light from the hole in the school roof, I managed to stub my toe! *** IT IS WHAT IT IS, NO? ***
