UPDATE: The school board tabled this matter Monday night.
Ya just never know what will pop up on a Bridgeport Board of Education agenda. One week ago there was talk of a public hearing for citizen input on Superintendent of Schools Paul Vallas’ job evaluation, but that was scuttled by the board. Now we see this on the agenda for tonight’s 6:30 meeting at the Aquaculture School, 60 Stephens Road: “Approval of Superintendent’s Contract Extension.”
Full agenda here.
Government watchdog Jonathan Pelto shares his take on this here.

Fire the creep!
BRG,
Wouldn’t “firing” at this point also confuse the READY, AIM, FIRE protocol of Pelto’s “Alice in Wonderland” story? And the reasons, pro and con for firing action are? (Or does that make your commentary too lengthy?)
In recent weeks there have been calls on OIB for firing Chief Gaudett, Fire Chief Rooney, and last June, the cleverly executed “de-funding” of City Council legislative aide Tom White. Ten percent of the Council will have been replaced since the last Council election. And more than a few City offices are held by ACTING leaders, perhaps not otherwise qualified for the position in which they are serving.
This morning there is news about the Port Authority suffering lack of revenues relative to expenses, with a debt repayment due soon, and coming back to the City for assistance. Leadership of the Committee in the hands of the taxpayers, or City Hall? Governance of the PA OPEN, ACCOUNTABLE and TRANSPARENT?
Are there too many things in the City passing under the radar? Is the radar too often operated by folks wearing more than one loyalty hat? If the activity is funded by the public, shouldn’t there be a more public outreach, reporting and opportunity to become informed by and question those responsible? Time will tell.

*** Let’s hope the BOE can stay on the present agenda assigned for this week without getting into “old business” arguments that lead nowhere! Each member should get a copy of “Roberts Rules of Order” and watch a “how to run a public meeting” video after their meeting tonight. *** GOOD LUCK! ***
