On Saturday, August 25 in Sugar Land, TX the Bridgeport Bluefish will go head-to-head with the Sugar Land Skeeters and square off against seven-time Cy Young Award Winner Roger Clemens. The former Red Sox and Yankee hurler will be making his first professional appearance since pitching for the Bronx Bombers in 2007.
Game time is 8:05 p.m. EST. and the Bluefish will have a LIVE VIDEO STREAM of the contest against the Skeeters. Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw is no stranger to Clemens, facing him in 12 games during his career in the Major Leagues. Upshaw is 8-for-38 (.211) against the Rocket with one homerun, one triple, two runs and five RBI.
Two current Bluefish players have also had the opportunity to face Roger head-to-head in the Majors. Former Red Sox slugger Shea Hillenbrand owns a .333 batting average (7-for-21) against Clemens with seven singles, two runs, three RBI and a walk. Luis Lopez is 1-for-5 (.200) with a single against the Rocket.
Bluefish hurler Brad Thompson is scheduled to start on Saturday against Clemens and has pitched in one Major League game Clemens started on September 24, 2006. Thompson came in as a reliever for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Houston Astros and threw one-and-one-third innings allowing one hit and striking out three.
