After 25 years in print, The Bridgeport News has published its final edition. The latest print edition notified readers and advertisers April 12 would be the last. It will continue its online presence www.thebridgeportnews.com. The Bridgeport News is owned by Hersam Acorn newspapers, publisher of about 20 weekly publications in southern Connecticut including several suburban newspapers.
The paper cited the loss of advertising revenue in a difficult economy, a trend that has morgued newspapers large and small across the country as they rebuild relevance on the Web. Newspaper management writes it could bring back a print edition if the economy improves, but that seems unlikely.
