Bloodroot Vegetarian Restaurant, 85 Ferris Street in Black Rock, is celebrating 35 years with a special anniversary menu tonight (Wednesday) starting at 6. Check it out.
No meats for 35 years … and still a great meal!
In March 1977, starting in a Bridgeport neighborhood with the concept of serving meals without meat … nor fish … nor fowl, the once inconceivable idea has been built into a 35 year history that has seen Bloodroot Vegetarian Restaurant become one of “the best in the nation” for its kind of dining fare.
This month, foodies, feminists, political activists and plenty of good folk will join chef-owners, Selma Miriam and Noel Furie to celebrate more than just the extraordinary meals of the last 35 years, but also to celebrate the shared politics, philosophies and wonderful recipes. This all in a setting that has welcomed and warmed everyone since 1977. It is a testament to the substance of their lives as feminists in making this restaurant a reflection of their work, that Yale University has archived the 35 year history of Bloodroot.
The vegetarian and vegan dishes offered on the Bloodroot menu are different and delicious … and are prepared in a manner rarely found in restaurants today. Everything is made on premises and everything is made starting from the very first step … The menu continues to be creative each week and changes with the season with an emphasis on local and organic produce. Bloodroot was one of the first restaurants in the country to embrace this standard.
So check out the special anniversary menu, come hear the celebratory words, enjoy the raffle and join the celebration starting at 6pm Wednesday, March 21st.
