Publicity At The Point Of A Finger

Be careful, or maybe not so careful, what you post on OIB. Ya never know when it might end up a story in the Connecticut Post or another media outlet. It can then take on a life of its own, or just fade away into nothing.

Outrage, real or imagined, is part of campaign life. Had Joel “Speedy” Gonzalez’s comment about adoption been made six months ago the response would have been that’s Joel being Joel. The fact is, one month from a big election, campaign operatives on both sides will look to pounce on anything that might crank up voters. It’s also a fact that Joel had planned to resign his candidacy for sheriff before hay was made about his comment on OIB that’s become a bit of a hullabaloo. Joel was not pining to run for city sheriff. He had decided he didn’t want to be a distraction to Mary-Jane Foster’s mayoral campaign once he saw the video, produced by Finch supporters, featuring his finger snip protesting the gun lobby in 1994.

We’ll see more videos, more statements, more outrage in the next four weeks than you’ve heard in the past four years. The camps of Mayor Bill Finch and Foster are examining issues and opposition research for potential campaign strikes. Both sides will have plenty of dough to position their respective candidates for staying the course or making change.

The issue involving Finch’s relationship with a political action committee is not going away. If I’m the Finch camp I’d have expressed outrage that the Foster camp introduced spouses into the mix. Chivalry is a political tradition. But if I’m the Foster camp I’d deliver a preemptive strike against negative attacks. “The Finch gang that served as architects of the smear campaign against Dan Malloy on behalf of Ned Lamont will now try to do the same against Mary-Jane Foster.”

But Lennie, what about real bread and butter issues? Yup, campaigns must hammer home those points as well. This race is actually a contest between Finch defending his record and Foster explaining why voters should switch horses. Starting gate and they’re off …

  1. Congratulations, Chopalong. You embarrassed yourself. First, you cut off your finger in public, then you cut off your nose to spite your face. What’s next?

  2. BTW, Ronin. By what standard do you base your accusation I am an asshole? If, as I suspect, you incorporate the adage … It Takes One to Know One, then I would suggest you are to be regarded as qualified if not preeminent in asshole identification.

    1. Yahooy–I haven’t used “it takes one to know one” since elementary school. You are truly evolved. “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get” Foster has many qualified supporters, but you are still an asshole.

  3. OK all you bastards. Just remember all those other bastards are checking up on you.

I can see the press release now:
“The reelection campaign of William Finch today accused yahooy, the Bridgeport Kid, anna, AbbyNormal, Mojo et al. of …”

    1. You are an asshole, kid. Politics are one thing. Adoption is a sacred thing for people who can’t have kids. And for the child its a lifetime of wondering why they were given up (for some).
Say what you will about Bill’s politics … leave his adoption alone.
Joel … get a life … you are the definition of a loser.

  4. For close to four years now, senior OIB bloggers such as myself have been calling for Bill Finch to come to the blog. He said he doesn’t or didn’t read blogs when asked one time. I myself tried and tried to draw out and engage Bill Finch or any other elected city official to come on board and share with us. Bob Walsh is the only regular OIB friend we have. All others have chosen to hide behind some keyboard somewhere to read what the OIB gangsters are doing. Whenever they are irked by something they read here, they jump in with some handle to write nice stuff about themselves and bad about another. Bill Finch could have handled it by entering OIB and “taking the night.” He could have invited his supporters to come with him and hold his hand. But no, like thieves in the night, Bill Finch illegally crosses the OIB border and steals written material and gives it to the CT Post. He picked and chose written material he felt was most valuable and used it to his political advantage. Classic Bill Finch! Now, since he came to OIB and committed an offense, OIB Sheriff Joel Gonzalez is on his tail. OIB sheriff Gonzalez started where Bill Finch pawned the material he looted from OIB. OIB Sheriff Gonzalez reports Bill Finch did not touch any items from the OIB Pol pod and suspects Finch did not touch them because it doesn’t have any political value to him. K. Torres of the CT Post is examining this material to see why Bill Finch didn’t touch it and pawned it to the CT Post. Stay tuned.

  5. Since the signatures were already turned in with his name on them doesn’t his name appear on the ballot anyway? If it does and he wins is he gonna step aside for the general election?
