U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal will visit Bridgeport on Tuesday (today). A GOP spending bill over the weekend would strip $11 million funding for the Steel Point redevelopment area that had been secured by Congressman Jim Himes. Dick, Himes and Mayor Bill Finch will conduct a news conference today. From Dick Blumenthal:
In Bridgeport, Blumenthal will tour a job training facility and discuss the programs they operate to prepare workers for new jobs in the Bridgeport area. Also in Bridgeport, Blumenthal will host a press conference with Mayor Finch to discuss how the Republican spending bill that passed in the House of Representatives last week will put a stop to road projects in Connecticut, including one in Bridgeport.

I noticed tricky dickie and mayor moonbeam will be holding a press conference at 10 Middle St. If I am not mistaken isn’t that where Flush Timpanelli has his office?
There must be a showing to prospective buyers by real estate agents at city hall and at the annex and that’s why the press conference can’t be held there. You just can’t make this shit up.
So, boys and girls, we now return to the gentle days of yesteryear, when the mid-term Congressional elections of the first Obama term, and Republicans of different flavors were being offered to the voters for their discriminating tastes. President Obama himself came to town and Mayor Finch had an unforgettable introductory comment, verging more on “never” than “clever,” do you remember now?
Congressman Himes, running for his second term, was able to appear with a pre-election (and pre-Christmas) present for Bridgeporters. It was an $11 Million award to handle infrastructure improvements for the Steel Point Project. It was to show how informed and interested Congressman Himes was for the embattled taxpayer voters in the City. It was also an earmark, apparently!
You see, “a bridge to nowhere in Alaska” is an earmark, but “infrastructure improvement in Bridgeport” is necessary and should not be compromised or at least that is how locals will think of this. But enough new Republican Congresspersons were elected for these earmarks of all kinds to come under attack currently.
I remember there was much glee and happiness in Bridgeport when the announcement was made. And remember that Congressman Jim Himes was re-elected. There is much sadness in Bridgeport development land. And the sadness will not soon go away. So what do those now in power do about this turnabout? Shall we look for words of wisdom and encouragement from the Director of the Office of Planning and Economic Development?
Well as we close our storybook today, boys and girls, we will wait breathlessly for the news that will come out of the meeting between our new Senator Richard Blumenthal and Mayor Bill Finch. Bet you just can’t wait to hear what they come up with, right?
Beacon; What tricky Dickie and Ringmaster Finch will come up with today will be pure and utter bullshit. More false promises. Let’s be honest. Bluementhal is a freshman senator who already pissed off the senate leadership by showing up late to 1 or 2 meetings.
Steel Point for better or worse has turned into a non-project, what a shame. There must have been something the city could have done to get this project up and running.
With the crazy-quilt antics of this administration who knows? Here is a small list:
1. Wants his appointed commission to come up with all the city-owned buildings that are not being used and have them put out to bid (sale). NEVER IMPLEMENTED.
2. We are now putting out to bid city hall and city hall annex.
3. A relatively done deal with Trumbull for the new magnet high school is pretty much a dead issue because of the arrogance of Finch and his people.
4. Finch hires alderman Curwen to fill a city job and lo and behold the person Curwen is replacing is back to work.
5. Finch sits on the information about a new jail for over a year and finally speaks out when the residents start to raise hell.
6. Finch does nothing to stop residential place for released convicts, the zoning officials who passed it are all his appointments.
7. Finch creates new departments not covered in the charter and the council passes it. Example: Conservation Department.
The list goes on and on. The incompetence of Finch, Wood and Sherwood is amazing.
