  1. This sounds like it will be a great Friend-Raising event!

I think this group is starting to get Billy’s Goat! I forgot, this is the Year of the Rabbit. Fittingly, Bill has some real Rabbit Ears when he is criticized.

  2. My dearest Mary-Jane

We all know Billy burned you after you raised all that cash for his victorious run 3 years ago, and you would love to knock him out in September.

But–you have to know you can’t possibly win in this diverse, minority/majority city without one John M Gomes as your running mate. He is IN THE TRENCHES every day with THE PEOPLE of this CITY.

I, as all do—wish you well.

    1. She can appoint him Lt. Mayor. He can also run for a council seat and then {with her support} become president of the council. Then again wouldn’t that just be more of the same?

Sounds to me 2011 is suggesting that MJF would appeal to the caucasians IMO.
Finch and MJF would split that vote and Gomes who is African/Spanish and speaks six languages would appeal to a much wider voter variety. Again IMO.
Gomes can walk the streets in any section of the city and knock on their door; MJF, well, wouldn’t be as easy for her. Again IMO.

Then again, I’m just guessing what 2011 was saying.

  4. The equation for a better Bridgeport:

MJ Foster (mayor) + J. Gomes (chief of staff) + Caruso/Hennessy/Ed “I know everybody from way back” Gomes support

    =

75 percent of the city voting out the current administration.

    … it’s coming.

    1. MJ as mayor and Gomes as CAO with the authorization to implement his CitiStat recommendations with an extra-large push broom. Would like to see some genuine union involvement as well. Employees and their unions should be seen as part of the solution, not the cause of the problems. IMO.

        To your posting

        BGirl,
Agree with you on union involvement … needed, necessary, and key to the way Bridgeport will have to govern as an Administration for all citizens, not the favored few …

  5. I don’t know, but the time is ticking away, Lennie. I’ve been thinking about how critical it is to have a full slate in a Bridgeport mayoral primary. Gomes seems poised to go it alone without any signs of having an underticket running with him. The longer Foster takes to decide to run the harder the chances of winning. Both, need to get moving from next month ’til September. Bill Finch has MOM going for him. In the event that Gomes, Foster, Coviello or any one else do happen to put up a full primary challenge, it would be even harder to beat Finch as the candidates in his underticket would also be working to defeat them. Lennie, the election is over.

  6. *** Cape Verdean is not Spanish it’s Portuguese dialect & why does Gomes have to be Mary-Jane’s (COS) & not the other way around? Again I’m just saying! Also Coviello might be good for maybe a dozen votes on a good day! *** Are IOU’s okay for the meet & greet? *** HERE WE GO! ***

    1. I like your thinking, but take that one step further and MJ is better suited as CAO. COS should be someone who has some familiarity with the city departments and the people who work there.

      1. REWRITE THE CITY CHARTER AND LET’S HAVE CO-MAYORS!

As much as that would be awesome, I think MJ is a great “point person” (in that way you need the top elected official to be), and John Gomes has the city connections to actually run the day-to-day side of operations.

Either way it unfolds, Birdman Finch is going to have a run for his money.

  7. A few years ago in Hartford. The most “powerful” position in city government wasn’t Mayor, but city manager. The ever-popular Mayor Mike Peters was the Mayor but all the decisions were made by the city manager. During the next administration Mayor Eddie Perez was able to take control of the Mayor’s office and the running of the city. We may need to explore how that came to be.

I believe that would be a matter of amending the City Charter. Having a nonpartisan, apolitical City Manager running the city might be a good thing for Bridgeport. Lord knows the current system has not been working–at all. But then again … on second thought … maybe not. If a town/city is run by a manager, the Council has to be strong. The City Council would have to consist of intelligent city residents who can bring a wealth of expertise, from all areas of industry, to the table.
