Mayor: City Hall Closed Monday

From Mayor Bill Finch:

City Hall and Board of Education Offices will be Closed Monday, Dec. 27;

Only Essential City, BOE Employees Should Report to Work

BRIDGEPORT, CT (December 26, 2010) – Due to the major snowstorm blanketing the area, Mayor Bill Finch and Superintendent of Schools John Ramos Sr. have announced that Bridgeport City Hall and Board of Education offices will be closed to the public Monday, December 27. Only City and Board of Education employees essential to storm operations should report to work.

Earlier on Sunday, Mayor Finch declared a citywide snow emergency that will be in effect through Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 1:00 a.m.

“We want to keep our City streets as clear as possible so that Public Works road crews can continue to plow and keep the streets open,” said Mayor Finch. “Only essential employees – police, fire, public works and specific city offices concerned with public health and safety – should report to work on Monday.”

During the snow emergency all city residents should heed alternate side of the street parking rules as of 2 p.m., Sunday December 26. Residents should move their cars to the even side of the street today. On Monday, cars should be parked on the odd side of the street.

Parking is not permitted on any designated snow emergency street. For safety purposes, residents and business owners are asked to comply with the ban so that snowplows can efficiently clear the streets. A list of snow emergency streets can be found at www.bridgeportct.gov/pages/NewsDetails.aspx?itemid=144

Residents are allowed to park their cars in any Board of Education public school lot. Residents are requested to park their cars in a group away from the school building. The City is not responsible for any thefts or damage to vehicles. Motorists parking in public school lots are responsible for the removal of their vehicle at the termination of the parking ban. This is necessary in order to clear the school lots.

The Department of Public Works reminds all residents and business owners to shovel the sidewalk and walkways, including curb cuts, for pedestrian safety. Please do not shovel snow back into the street from your driveway or sidewalk. Anyone found throwing snow back into the street will be subject to a fine.

Mayor Bill Finch urges city residents to heed all emergency warnings and to drive safely during the storm, which is expected to drop from 10-16 inches of snow in the area.
