Mayor’s Snow Emergency

From Mayor Finch:

Snow Emergency Declared for Winter Storm

Alternate Side of the Street Parking in Effect Immediately

Mayor Bill Finch has declared a citywide snow emergency that will be in effect citywide today (Sunday) at 2 p.m. through Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 1:00 a.m.

During the snow emergency all city residents should heed alternate side of the street parking rules as of 2 p.m., Sunday December 26. Residents should move their cars to the even side of the street today. On Monday, December 27, cars should be parked on the odd side of the street by 1 a.m.

Parking is not permitted on any designated snow emergency street. For safety purposes, residents and business owners are asked to comply with the ban so that snowplows can efficiently clear the streets.

The Department of Public Works reminds all residents and business owners to shovel the sidewalk and walkways, including curb cuts, for pedestrian safety. Please do not shovel snow back into the street from your driveway or sidewalk. Anyone found throwing snow back into the street will be subject to a fine.

Mayor Bill Finch urges city residents to heed all emergency warnings and to drive safely during the storm, which is expected to drop from 10-16 inches of snow in the area.

Following is information from the city’s Office of Emergency Management regarding alternate side of the street parking, snow emergency streets and safety tips. Important emergency numbers include:

Call 911 for immediate life-threatening emergencies.

Call 203.576.7751 or 203.576.7124 for snow removal concerns.

Residents Can Park Their Vehicles in Public School Parking Lots

Mayor Bill Finch has announced that City residents can park their cars in any Board of Education public school parking lot in order to keep City streets clear during the blizzard.

Residents are requested to park their cars in a group away from the school building. The City is not responsible for any thefts or damage to vehicles.

Motorists parking in public school lots are responsible for the removal of their vehicle at the termination of the parking ban. This is necessary in order to clear the school lots.
