Erin Stealwart? Expense Reports Show Guber Candidate Erin Stewart Bought Clothes, Shoes, Cosmetics With City Credit Card

It’s fitting Republicans will conduct their state convention on Saturday at Mohegan Sun. Former New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart gambled with taxpayer money to lavish herself with all kinds of personal benefits, charging more than $200,000 on a city credit card, according to copies of expense reports.

Now the candidate for governor faces a massive mess to drop out of the race and something worse: state and federal criminal investigations.

From News 8 CT

A decade’s worth of expense reports filed by Erin Stewart during her time as New Britain’s mayor reveal multiple purchases made with a city-issued credit card to buy clothes, shoes, and cosmetics — along with numerous instances in which reports for large purchases were unaccompanied by receipts.

News 8 obtained the expense reports, which span from mid-2016 to late 2026, via a Freedom of Information request. In recent weeks, multiple sources have told News 8 that an investigation ordered by Stewart’s Democratic successor, Mayor Bobby Sanchez, has honed in on Stewart’s use of her city credit card. The investigation is being conducted by the Crumbie Law Group, which previously produced a report that led Sanchez to fire New Britain’s tax collector. Stewart has characterized the Sanchez administration’s investigation as a politically motivated “witch hunt” designed to derail her candidacy for governor and enact retribution against her political allies in the Hardware City.

Shipments to Stewart’s home

In October 2017, records show Stewart’s card was used to buy a $129.99 pair of Lucky Brand women’s boots. Another purchase made the next day included a $141.45 women’s dress and two other clothing items that amounted to around $35. The day after that, the card was used to purchase two more shirts, priced at $21.21 each, and another clothing item, priced at $23.98.
