Facing District Financial Challenges, Local School Leader Meets With State Board Of Education

Dr. Royce Avery, interim superintendent of schools, issued the following statement after meeting on Wednesday with the Connecticut State Board of Education.

“I am pleased with the outcomes of today’s Connecticut State Board of Education meeting and grateful for the confidence the Commissioner for the Connecticut State Department of Education, Connecticut State Board of Education, and Bridgeport Board of Education have placed in me and our plan to lead the district’s turnaround efforts as Interim Superintendent.

I also want to thank the Bridgeport Education Association, FaithActs, Bridgeport Board of Education members, and all others who attended and continue to support our work. Your involvement is vital to our progress.

The State Board’s approval of support measures, including training for Bridgeport Board of Education members, a technical assistance team, and a collaborative process for approving a permanent superintendent, will strengthen our efforts and ensure we stay aligned in our work.

I’d also like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our administrators, teachers, staff, and the entire Bridgeport community. It’s because of your unwavering commitment that progress is possible.

I look forward to continuing to work closely with the commissioner, the state board, the Bridgeport Board of Education, and all stakeholders to ensure every student in our district has access to a high-quality education and the opportunities they deserve.”
