City Councilman Tyler Mack has resigned his seat in the 131st District, according a Facebook post. His departure comes as he is now a resident of Black Rock in the 130th District.
Mack, 27 years old, had represented Downtown, South End and portion of West End. He has built a sturdy legislative resume by profession as a former aide to the senate leader in Hartford and now community outreach manager for Congressman Jim Himes.
He also served locally as co-chair of the Ordinance Committee. His bona fides could lead him to higher public office in the future.
His Facebook statement:
“It’s truly been the honor of my life to serve the City of Bridgeport. I believe Bridgeport has the potential to lead on many critical issues and be the city we all know it can be. I hope my time in office has helped bring that potential closer to reality. We’ve accomplished a lot in a short amount of time.
The time has come for my family to move out of the 131st district. With that, I have to resign my seat as City Councilman for the 131st District. Although I loved serving my City as a City Councilman, I must now serve in another capacity.
Thank you to my family for the continuous support and love. Thank you to all my friends and colleagues for this amazing ride on the Council. Even though I will not be on the Council, I will still stay engaged. I look forward to whatever God has for my future. In the meantime, farewell.”
I learned of the loss to the Council through Tyler Mack’s resignation only days ago. He was present, listened, and participated in lawmaking through creation of Ordinances and Resolutions. He resigned when he moved out of District 131 as is appropriate.
I have had occasion to know him through work at one or more locations in downtown where more than a few “High-rise neighborhoods” exist through HUD and resident funding. A resident gathering monthly brought issues that affected many tenants but they had remained “voiceless” until meetings yielded floor captains, by-laws, and Tenant Association Officers. That is ongoing in a City where a series of Mayors allowed their own failure to appoint members to FAIR Rent or Housing Commissions for the DEATH of those boards,
I spoke about that failure to the CC at public speakin in recent years so that some listened and Mack and others saw to the creation of an Ordinance two years ago with City staff funding, and finally the renewal of a Commission that is now meeting monthly. He has shared that action with his fellow representative Jorge Cruz. I have been a volunteer note taker at monthly meetings of these bodies. Council representatives were present not just before an election. They helped create “democratic practices” and bodies where there was no City emphasis on that. Autocracy is easier to run from the top down, perhaps?
It is likely a temporary time out for this public servant to enjoy with his family in another part of Bridgeport. Perhaps someone will note his presence and reach out to him soon. Time will tell.
Looks like a crowded field among the D’s for the 22nd District this year… At least 3 — and counting…
Moore or Less
In the North End of Trumbull, it’s Wednesday. That means that it’s D’s for Senate Day! Anthony!!!!! (Nancy; don’t forget to remind your godson to wash his resume and get ready to announce that HE’S BAAACK….) (Better see if the Golden Hill Paugussetts can work up a little something to get Ed Gomes’ hex off of that candidacy… Probably won’t work… But, while you’re at it, maybe talk to Bishop Frank about exorcising the whole D Party in Bridgeport/Trumbull; maybe try to get the infestation to transfer to SHU — where they’ll have company…)
