One week from D-Day: that would be Democratic primary day September 12, campaign finance reports filed with the Town Clerk’s Office on Tuesday show Mayor Joe Ganim with a sizable spending advantage in the final days over opponent John Gomes who has raised nearly $300,000 to the incumbent’s $400,000.
That’s expected.
This type of battle isn’t measured by tightness of money but by the opponent’s money factor to compete with the incumbent. Gomes certainly has met the threshold, overperforming expectations.
The next question: are you spending it in the right areas to put you over the top?
The final week blitz excavates mail pieces, digital advertising, door knocks, phone calls. And intravenous feedings of caffeine, or the beverage of your choice, depending on campaign operative priorities.
See campaign finance reports below laden in “consulting” and “canvassers” which may be the same depending how the treasurer codes the listing.
A further parse to come.
