An expected September 12 Democratic primary for mayor on the horizon, Mayor Joe Ganim had roughly $344,000 cash on hand, John Gomes $117,000, Lamond Daniels 82,000 and State Senator Marilyn Moore $88,000 at the close of the second quarter fundraising period ending June 30.
The storylines here? Moore had a poor fundraising quarter, especially as an incumbent state senator, coming off her close 2019 primary loss to Ganim. She raised just over half the amount of the first quarter, proving once again that in campaigns the early money is the easy money to raise from friends, family and core supporters.
The unknown Daniels has nearly as much money on hand as Moore entering the stretch run.
Gomes continues to impress as a fundraiser, with $75,000 raised for the quarter but spending at a rapid pace.
Ganim has plenty in reserve, with roughly three times more cash on hand than his closest rival. He has hit the airwaves to make his case for another four years.
Snapshots of each campaign’s fundraising:
Ganim: Total raised, $395,655. Raised this quarter, $69,750. Spent this period $11,120. Cash on hand, $344,366.
Gomes: Total raised, $276,219. Raised this quarter, 75,440. Spent this period, $71,458. Cash on hand $116,611.
Daniels: Total raised, 104,384. Raised this quarter, $25,499. Spent this period $19,232. Cash on hand, $81,938.
Moore: Total raised $103,975. Raised this quarter, $37,195. Spent this period, $10,548. Cash on hand $88, 347.
What’s next?
Ganim’s party endorsement July 25 that will automatically place him on the ballot. The following day opponents will have approximately two weeks to collect roughly 2,000 verifiable signatures of Democratic electors to wage a September 12 primary.

Bridgeport development under G2??
Elimination of last and only downtown Hotel!!
Elimination of last full feature movie theater!!
But when it comes to raising money for elections, he leads all candidates??
Is this the essence of good governance or more evidence of misdirected momentum with GO WITH JOE campaign?
TIME WILL TELL.
Is G2 continuing to secure funding from out of towners that continue to benefit from not getting called on the taxes they owe for their properties that site undeveloped. Or from the outsiders that benefit from having their services in our city with a mayor that won’t push to increase the tax base.
