  1. Historical Black Colleges, Please. 🙂

    A) HBCs are higher education “American institutions” primarily in the south, built by the Rs after the American Civil War.

    B) Black people who study their asses off how to go to an HBC or any other university or higher education and pay upwards of 100 grand for a degree don’t want to police the adolescent behavior in urban cities while eating their meals in their patrol cars.

    Think-in-the-box people, like Community College, with an emphasis on those who are taking an associate criminal justice degree, who are going to be looking for a job when they finish. 🙂

  2. RT you are absolutely correct in your statement.
    I think that what they are trying to do is a noble effort however I’m sure that everyone realizes that it will be an uphill battle. I’m certain that most people today who would think about being a cop would prefer to not be on the job in a city such as Bridgeport. Prospective candidates would know that the cities inherent corruption would hamper any real desire to uphold the law in a city with such a cloud over its head. Still, people who have the desire to enter law enforcement in Connecticut would take the job if offered, knowing that after they receive their certified training, (at Bridgeport’s expense), other more desirable cities and towns would welcome them.
    Ask yourself if you had a choice to work in any city as a cop or whatever, would you pick the Port?
    In any case I wish the Bridgeport PD and Chief Porter all the best in their efforts.
    When the people behind the scenes are gone and Bridgeports hard working residents get lucky enough to have people in charge of the political environment really have its best interests in mind, maybe then it can turn around and be free from the stigma which it has.

  3. Rich, it was more of an opinion than a statement, but when I hear the word “ABSOLUTE” I tend to think it’s used as a coded word. It’s not uncommon for organizations to prioritize their own interests and goals, and to work towards maintaining and improving their position within or outside of an organization.

    This can involve a variety of strategies and tactics, including working to protect the organization’s reputation and public image and promoting the value and benefits of the organization, with deflection.

    It’s important for organizations to be mindful of the impact of their actions on all stakeholders, especially if the public is their main stakeholder, and the people they employ, as they strive to operate as an ethical and responsible organization to the broader community.

    What they’re trying to do is what they have always tried to do, and every organization tries to do, foster, and protect the organization. Generally speaking, not so much as sides, groups, or clicks, within, but more as a general commission like MLB more than the individual team/owner/employee playing on the “field”.

    It’s natural for people/groups to want to improve their circumstances and seek out opportunities that offer better pay, benefits, and working conditions given the choice. within or outside of an organization. But those opportunities will be limited as time goes by. Just as it will be for the Port as it fills its needs/ranks. JS

  4. P.S. Rich, while it is natural for people to seek out or if given a choice for a better opportunity for oneself to express interest. However, it should not be confused with betrayal/corruption.

    Corruption occurs when people in positions of power or influence abuse their authority for personal gain. As opportunities for power and influence are limited, corruption trickles down. It can take many forms though, personal, financial, sexual, and blackmail, public resources. While it is a major barrier that undermines trust in institutions or systems who are you placing blame on BPD issues?

    I mean JA was corrupt no? Gacia’s appointment was corrupted? Is Porter corrupt? If not, wouldn’t he have the influence and power as Chief of Police of the Bridgeport Police Department to dispel/weed out corruption within the department?

    These statements seem to give Porter some cover.”

    You would have thought at the very least in your mind Porter’s appointment had turned around and freed itself from the stigma of corruption from those in charge of the political environment/G2. But here we are?

    So either Proter’s corrupt to do the bidding of G2 or it never really matters, because democracy itself is corrupted. No matter who’s elected, just like it seems to not matter who G2 appointed as Chief of Police, be it AJ, Garcia, or Porter.
