From Brian Lockhart, CT Post:
Democrat Raymond Collette not only lost his City Council primary last week, but he is out of his job with the public housing authority because of his campaign.
Three days after receiving the fewest votes in the Sept. 14 race for the 133rd District, Collette was notified by his boss at the city’s housing authority–called Park City Communities–that, as a result of his campaign, he was “terminated” for engaging in a conflict of interest, violating company policy and “possibly federal law.”
Collette is a manager at the housing authority as well as a labor leader there. His union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, is fighting the decision, alleging he is being unfairly targeted for opposing layoffs and privatization efforts under Executive Director Jillian Baldwin.
“We have filed a grievance,” said Larry Dorman, an AFSCME spokesman, this week. “We believe he was terminated without just cause. We believe that the Bridgeport Housing Authority retaliated against Raymond for speaking out.”
