From Bridgeport Generation Now:
What makes a community powerful? An informed and engaged electorate! Bridgeport Generation Now, Better Bridgeport, Bridgeport Public Education Fund, Inc., Greater Bridgeport NAACP, Greater Bridgeport Young Democrats, I Luv Bridgeport, Respect My Family, and Working Families Party Bridgeport invite the Greater Bridgeport community to Civics 101 Workshop on Saturday, March 24th and Sunday, March 25th at The Nest Arts Factory. This 2nd Annual event is free and open to the public! Food and childcare are provided.
Civics 101 is a weekend workshop that pulls together people who’ve been in the trenches, have subject matter expertise, and are willing to share their knowledge, with the hopes of bettering the community we all love. It is also an opportunity to engage, learn, network, and share ideas in a safe, fun, and collaborative space!
The hosts for the weekend are Mufasa Bastet, author, life coach, and youth development advocate, alongside Duanecia Evans, National Senior Director of Teach For America’s Black Community Alliances. Workshops will explore basic civic and political education, the role of activism in healthy democracies, city and state budget, creative strategies for collective advocacy, the non-profit industrial complex, and Bridgeport 2036, a vision for our future. Saturday’s program also includes community-led workshops, skill-sharing sessions that are by Bridgeport community members, for Bridgeport community members.
Saturday’s workship goes from 10:00am – 5:00pm and Sunday from 12:00pm – 4:00pm. Registration is strongly encouraged due to seating limitations. You can register to attend online at bptgennow.org/civics-101-workshop/
