From Bill Kaempffer, city police spokesman:

A city woman faces animal cruelty charges in connection with the death of her dog. Rommy Rodriguez, 23, of 271 Pacific St., was arrested this morning by the Bridgeport Police warrant squad, which works with the U.S. Marshals.

In late October, police were informed by a neighbor who was concerned that Rodriquez had killed her dog. The witness reported hearing Rodriguez yelling and the dog barking, followed by the dog crying and whining. The neighbor reported hearing Rodriguez hitting the dog and that the dog’s whining becoming quieter and quieter until it stopped.

The neighbor also reported later seeing Rodriguez and an unidentified man with a black garbage bag behind the house. The neighbor discovered the dog was buried in the back yard, dug it up and brought it to the Bridgeport Animal Shelter.

A necropsy concluded that the dog, a poodle mix, died from blunt force trauma. Detective John Tenn secured an arrest warrant this week and Rodriguez was arrested this morning.

The warrant unit is comprised of Detectives Robert Martin, Eric King and Ben Cortina.

  1. There are no words to describe how heinous this act of cruelty is. This woman is depraved and ruthless. She deserves the most serious penalty the court can hand out. I hope every animal rights activist on the East Coast shows up to protest her brutal assault on this poor animal. As far as the neighbor, he should have reported her abuse of this unfortunate puppy long before it came to this. I certainly hope she has no children, and if she does, DCF should step in to make sure she’s not abusing them also. Animal abuse is usually the first step before the person begins to inflict harm on humans. She deserves a special place in hell.

  2. This woman is a disgusting piece of shit. This really is very disturbing and the woman is either insane or a drug addict. This was just cruel and unnecessary. The fact she took time to bury the dog means she could have taken the time to bring it to a shelter for a new life. PEOPLE can be very cruel. This story is sadder than reading about Vallas ad nauseum. HE’S GONE. Done, finished and exonerated. Please, enough already!

  3. *** What a piece of “shit” is right; someone should put a tight dog collar on her, tie her up to a fence in the hot sun and beat her with a dipped in saltwater wet bush branch on the derby while playing loud rock & roll music so it muffles her crying and yelling sounds, no? *** GOD DON’T LIKE UGLY! ***
