When One Night Turns Into Four More Years

Excellent read from Ken Dixon, CT Post:

Gov. Dan Malloy was walking the floor, hands behind his back, as the first numbers began to pop up on the computer spreadsheets.

A few of us were in a small, bright living room of the cottage on the back of the four-acre Governor’s Residence property.

He was striding up into the hall, pirouetting in the kitchen, then returning down the two steps where his son Ben, wearing a Team Malloy-Wyman fleece, was standing watching some clueless talking head on TV. It was pushing 9 o’clock.

The stakes were huge. It takes a different kind of person to put yourself out there so far that 1.1 million people decide whether you keep your job, or “spend more time with my family,” like a failed baseball manager.

Mark Ojakian, the governor’s chief of staff, was set up on a white loveseat, refreshing his notebook. Roy Occhiogrosso, Malloy’s long-time advisor and campaign poobah, was on the white couch where the governor would join him for 30 seconds or so before standing for his next lap of the white-walled cottage.
