What Should Christina Ayala Do?

From Dan Tepfer and Brian Lockhart, CT Post:

When you’re an elected official and your reality-television style personal drama goes public, with explicit text messages, a bar fight and torched cars, even the staunchest supporters get cold feet.

That’s the case with freshman state Rep. Christina Ayala, whom Bridgeport Democrats backed for office despite last year’s arrests for a post-primary hit and run and a domestic fight with her now ex-boyfriend, Pedro Rodriguez.

  1. It is becoming painfully obvious Christina Ayala is dealing with many deep-seated problems. One of those problems seems to come from alcohol. The previous problem started after she left her father’s bar and this most recent incident she was at her father’s bar at 11:30PM. If memory serves, isn’t she a single mom?
Published text allegedly from her uses language that is not appropriate.
It’s time for her to resign and start dealing with her problems in a meaningful way. If she doesn’t start dealing with these problems and evident low esteem she could really be in trouble, or worse a statistic.

  2. *** Not knowing all the facts and nothing more than rumors at this time, I would have to wait for the complete investigation and court outcome to pass serious judgement concerning her legislative future. However with so much negative drama unfolding in such a short period of time during her political service in Hartford, it does not look good, sad to say! *** TIME WILL TELL ***

    1. Ralph, these are not rumors. This child of Santa’s needs psychiatric help. She does not seem capable of understanding the damage she has done on many levels both personal and public. It’s time to go and get her life straightened out and put someone in her place who can function properly.

  3. I have to agree with Andy on this one. She is a lovely lady with many personal issues. For the sake of herself and her child she should face her demons as soon as possible. All Love & Happiness, Peace.

  4. Whether you are elected to a position of public service or appointed by one who is elected, there are serious responsibilities while you are in the public eye. You have duties that EXCEED those of a private citizen pursuing a normal round of daily activities.
Some of the duties are those that come with the office, executive, legislative, administrative or judicial. Those responsibilities are additional to those before you came to office. Some of the duties are representational, to listen to the problems, issues and concerns of those in your district and to refer them to places where redress or explanation can best occur.
The position you hold along with the increased duties and responsibilities provides a higher stage on which to perform (or not, as the case may be). That stage is in the public eye, the press, the various parts of electronic media and your personal life is made public.
Is it unreasonable to expect people on stage to know they become role models for those not on stage, for the young and impressionable? Is it unreasonable to hold them to this higher standard? Do some of our Bridgeport aspirants and actors understand what it means to be a positive role model? Do they understand the difference between being a ‘celebrity’ and a ‘community leader?’ We need genuine leaders who can be respected for their ideals, their energy devoted to service, and for their daily presentation of personal character in our governance structures and in our home towns. Time will tell.

  5. She does seem like a lovely lady. It is sad with all of this horrible embarrassing drama. I know her family was incredibly proud of her. I know her sister is a teacher in Bridgeport and her classroom has Christina pics all over. This could be just a little blip in what could be a brilliant career and a source of pride for Bridgeport and the Hispanic community. I hope the investigation is quick and thorough and Christina can move forward constructively. I will not condemn her. There are a lot of constituents hoping she gets past this.

  6. There needs to be a complete overhaul of the Dem Town Committee. Aside from other issues, it is clear her problems didn’t start around the time she was first nominated. She should have had the nomination pulled after the first incident. The state legislature is not the place for her to work out her personal issues, whatever they may be.

    1. Hopefully, the time is coming soon when the best and brightest and younger people from Bridgeport step up and get involved to run for office. Let’s stop the nepotism and political party stuff.
