Yes, knock on wood to avoid bad luck. Tap on the trees to beg the spirits of good fortune.

Never in my 50 years covering this city has crime, statistically speaking, been so low. As a young crime reporter the brutality of the streets unforgettable.

Can it change tomorrow? Sure, these things run in cycles. But, hopefully, the trend runs in the positive direction with traction.

Mayor Joe Ganim and Chief Roderick Porter on Tuesday joined City Council members to roll out the numbers.

  1. Of course, there is more public confidence. To Lennie’s point, Porter was a “logical” choice. Everything else and including community, foot patrol is subjective.

    To be fair, it can be said Blackwell was just as “logical.”, and I believe the black minority group was against Porter, with a few choice words in favor of Blackwell.

    Let me just say this, Porter was so “logical” that the black Bridgeport Guardians advocacy organization had to abandon their black president and appoint a Latino to levy charges against Porter. 🙂

    You know to keep that race game/motivation game going without coming off as “disingenuous,” 🤣

    You have to main points, perhaps three regarding crime states.

    You have Jeff’s point, socio-economic, organized crime, per se, and Gaming

    Socio-economic, less poor, impoverished families tend not to participate in street crime. Organized crime, giving a shit more than not giving a shit about having cleaner streets and less blood, and I think Gaming is beyond underrated in occupying the urban youth who are more inclined to take part in street-level criminality.

    Not to say the Po Po don’t play a role in it. For the most part, they respond to crime more than prevent it. It is what is done in response to crime, ie, solving and making an arrest.

    I can assure you that a larger portion of crimes 80s and early 90s continued to thrive due to the Po Po’s lack of “comment ” on the shit part taken in it. JS

    Overlooking is one thing, but when shit gets out of hand, blood in the streets, that’s out of control is another thing.
