Walk With The Mayor

Mayor Bill Finch will reconvene the Take Back the Neighborhood walks on Wednesday in The Hollow. The mayor started the walks last year in response to an increase in violent crime.

  1. This is another election-year dog and pony show. The residents of this city, myself included, have been under attack for the past 3 years by thugs and vandals. We have had very little help from the Bpt police department brass. You can’t patrol a city with just 21 patrol officers per shift. The police brass have abdicated quality of life issues down to getting a case number and no patrol response.
Walking the neighborhoods, what pure and utter bullshit. What streets are you going to walk on the upper East Side? You hardly patrol up here with patrol cars. You, Chief Gaudette and Mayor Finch, both know that’s bullshit.

    1. tc,
The sheriff isn’t doing his job so we are reduced to vigilante justice? Let the chips fall where they may, punishment will be dealt accordingly. I will take my chances in court.

  2. I hope reporters aren’t going to treat the press conference as legitimate news, this is just door-to-door campaigning, but the chief gets made a prop. How dumb does the mayor think we are?

  3. Block Watchers have been proven to reduce crimes in neighborhoods. We have a strong effective one in Black Rock. Granted, these “walks” are the PR part of block watches, but the criminals see the outpouring of community support, and the neighbors come together to fight crime.

    1. Bepo–the criminals will rob your house while you are patrolling your neighborhood. Look at the budget for the police department. They should be doing their jobs, not us. If somebody caps your ass if you live are they gonna pay for your hospitalization?

      1. Ronin, I guess you do not have a block watch on your street. Most block watchers fight crime right from the safety of their homes and computers, they do not patrol the streets. We work cooperatively with the police and the block watch programs successfully reduce crime.

  4. The Bridgeport Republican Town Committee will be holding their caucus tonight to elect candidates for the upcoming municipal elections. The caucus will take place at 6pm at the North End Branch Library. If the citizens of Bridgeport are looking for an alternative to the business as usual ways of the city, please take into consideration the candidates who will be running on the Republican ticket.
