Voter Registration Deadline

From Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill:

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill today reminded Connecticut residents that the last deadline to register to vote and be on the voter list prior to Election Day November 4th is tomorrow at 8:00 p.m.  In order to register to vote today or tomorrow, eligible Connecticut must present themselves in person at their local town or city hall by 8:00 p.m., October 28, 2014.

“This is it! The deadline to register to vote and get on your local voter list prior to Election Day in this very important election is tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m.,” said Secretary Merrill, Connecticut’s chief elections official. “By law, Registrars of Voters are required to keep their offices across the state of Connecticut open up until the deadline to accommodate those last-minute voters who want to register before the election. Don’t sit on the sidelines, make sure your voice is heard and that you have the opportunity to influence the direction of our state and our country. I am urging all eligible Connecticut residents to register to vote, cast a ballot on Election Day, and make a difference.”

While October 28, 2014 is the deadline to register to vote for the overwhelming majority of Connecticut residents there are several exceptions. Anyone who moves within or into Connecticut after October 28th but before November 4th can still register to vote in person at their local registrar of voters’ office.  Connecticut residents who become United States citizens and citizens who turn 18 years of age during this same time period may also register in-person at their local registrars of voters’ office up until Election Day and still be included on the voter list.

Polls will be open across Connecticut from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 4, 2014 for Election Day. For information on how to register to vote, check your registration status, download an application for an absentee ballot, see where your polling place is located, or view your local town or city ballot, visit www.sots.ct.gov/vote
