Violent Crime Drop In City

“We’re successfully cracking down on crime, but we still have work to do,” Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett said in a statement. “I attribute the 20 percent drop in violence in 2013 to a lot of hard work in the police department and community, working together in efforts like Project Longevity and the mayor’s Gun Buyback program to make Bridgeport even safer. We have made a lot of progress and Bridgeport is safer than it has been in decades.”

The statewide report showed that a variety of efforts to reduce the number of young offenders has cut the levels of state prison inmates aged 18 to 21 by 48 percent over the last five years, making Connecticut a national leader.
