From the CT Post:
There will be no primary for Bridgeport’s Board of Education.
Following a two and a half-hour meeting Friday with more than a dozen lawyers representing the sides in the Bridgeport Board of Education takeover case, Superior Court Judge Salvatore Agati said that no candidates for the dissolved board will put their names up for the Sept. 13 Democratic primary.

Coviello withdrawing is now a moot point. I’m not surprised by the judge’s decision. No names can be added to the ballot until the civil suits have been heard by the court. A rule must be issued regarding the constitutionality of the law allowing the state’s takeover of the BOE. Judge Agati may issue an opinion before the November election. My guess is he’ll find the law unconstitutional in that it disenfranchises the voting public.
I agree with this judge.
NORTH45, now that you have told us you “agree with this judge,” please enlighten us as to why.
I don’t mean to judge but you give me Agita!
Finch Nation will rise for another four years. The judge sides with Mayor Finch. Soon the people of the Park City will hand over the keys to the city for another four more years of hard work from the Finch Administration.
Okay.
Mary_Choen95, thanks, that’s just great. Oh by the way, will the residents of Bridgeport be getting their $600 rebate check from the mayor before they give the mayor the keys?
It’s like one of Bill’s Three Biggest Lies! The Check is in the Mail!
It’s about time Finch supporters were on here. I guess people were getting tired of a total Foster love fest. That cannot make the Finch camp happy and I finally saw that billboard “Anyone But Finch.” That is hilarious. “One term Bill” OTB, a term coined by city hall employees, has to see that sign every day. It is mean. He has done some good–but good enough? Go Mary-Jane GO!!! Cannot wait for the debates. Are you scared, Finch supporters? You should be!
Where is Caruso these days? I hope he is doing okay. Supporting Mary-Jane Foster or is this the case of politics making strange bedfellows? Would be nice to hear what Caruso has to say.
Steven–Those “so called” Mary-Jane supporters in City Hall are miniscule at best and they all live outside of Bridgeport. Her stock is falling. Her decision to have Ernie Newton, and the like doesn’t make any sense whatsoever like McDonald’s issuing a press release saying they hate fat people. Which, honestly, I wish they would because you want to know where the most dangerous stretch of a road always is? Right in front of a McDonald’s.
Mary_Choen95, tell us something about the character of the person who nominated Bill Finch to be mayor last month at the DTC meeting, I thought I read something in the paper about him and a second chance?
Ronald–It was fitting I posted something about McDonalds and somebody named Ronald asks me a question. Here is my beef with that. Mr. Fabrizi who was a phenomenal mayor in his own right made a mistake, but he hurt himself. He wasn’t convicted of ANY crime. He made an error in judgement to himself and his family. Mr. Newton made a mistake that cost him, his family and community dearly. No ill will. I just think MJF is willing to stoop to any low just like any other politician. People think she urinates glitter. She doesn’t!
Bill is up for a four-year term. A four-year prison term. PAC Man will really be boning up on his skills.
www .youtube.com/watch?v=3-C7lHLFLU8
Steven–The plan for Caruso is if MJF loses (and insiders in his camp want her to), Jeff Kohut will give up his spot on the ballot and hand it over to Chris with FULL support from Governor Malloy and the Unions. Many of MJF’s supporters will not transfer over to Finch. Jack Hennessy was going to endorse MJF but then backed out when this plan was set in motion.
Dear virgin Mary,
You are wrong on the Feasts of your Assumptions. Kohut can’t be a placeholder for Caruso. Kohut is an Independent Petitioning candidate. He was not endorsed by any political party. Therefore he has no ability to do a ballot bait and switch.
Mary Choen must be the Fabulous one and he must be back on the blow.
Jeff Kohut is a petitioning candidate and not a party. Therefore Jeff CANNOT give his place on the ballot to anyone.
Poor Mary is very confused. She is still reliving the election from four years ago.
How’s The Block? Lennie’s Gas Station shut down its pumps early.
All clear now. Pump back open. Sorry about that.
I’ve decided to tune in to the Foster Fabulous Fantasy Fun Fest on here. Where are you fans going to get your jollies after Finch wins the primary? Some of the insinuations posted here are that of a desperate bunch, but that’s what happens when you are on the side that’s losing.
Oh this is great, NORTH45, Mary-Choen95 and Godiva2011, let the games begin. Now we have three people who can tell us all of the POSITIVE things Mayor Finch has done; remember, POSITIVE about the mayor’s record. Okay, let’s forget about the first LIE he told us as a candidate for mayor about our $600 tax rebate.
Ron Mackey–is there an echo in here? I POSITIVELY think you need some new material, you’re really redundant. Yawn!
Godiva2011, redundant, lol, look at what you, NORTH45 and Mary_Choen95 have posted, NOTHING. Okay, now tell us how bad MJF is because you have nothing to tell us why anyone should vote FOR Mayor Finch.
At least Jim “Foxy” was original when he posted a love song to Finch a couple of days ago, a little kinky but original nonetheless. Yes, he is dreaming, or should I say fantasizing?
Ron Mackey I’m not going to post anything about how bad any candidate is, there’s more than enough negativity on here already. Besides, it’s pointless, your mind is made up and so is mine. Finch has my vote.
Godiva2011, for the record I have never said who I was voting for or who I am supporting. I’m glad there are now those who are supporting Mayor Finch posting on OIB. I have been asking the same question over and over, why should anyone vote for Mayor Finch?
There have been a number statements and comments concerning Mayor Finch’s record as mayor by The Bridgeport Kid, BEACON2, MCAT, town committee, countdown, Bob (for those I forgot I’m sorry) and others who have posted a portion of the mayor’s record in office and have shown why Mayor Finch should be elected. Their reasons are about his public record as mayor; well, where is the other side if there is one?
Ron–How about the mayor’s Small and Minority Business office. School contracts going to minority companies. When has that ever happened under ANY administration? Everybody on Mary-Jane’s team are recycled throwaways who are disgruntled. When it comes to the Honorable Mayor John Michael Fabrizi he did an admirable job taking over this city under its WORST crisis. Nobody wanted anything to do with City Hall. John made people believe in Bridgeport. Remember the I-95 catastrophe? Gov Rowland leaned on John to get that stretch of road back! Here are my top five mayors ever in Bridgeport:
Fabrizi
Fabrizi
Fabrizi
Finch
McLevy
I totally agree, Fabrizi was a terrific mayor. As is Mayor Finch. They both believe in Bridgeport–Vote Finch!
Godiva–We are both like minded. You must’ve scored extremely high in the Mensa test.
Thanks Mary, yes indeed, unlike others. It’s not surprising, but I see we didn’t exactly get a warm welcome on here, but I’m OK with that. This blog has been inundated with one-sided MJF cheerleaders for too long, it’s time we took a stand, and I’m certain we will be victorious.
Well Mr. Mackey, dare I say Mayor Finch has withstood the pitfalls of the biggest national economic downturn I can remember, at least in my lifetime. He’s had to make tough decisions and got a lot of harsh criticism. I think Bridgeport is on the upswing and he’s been a factor in that. Now I know everyone will say how great things were in previous administrations compared to Finch’s tenure, but the overall economy was in much better shape back then. I’m willing to bet the very same people who bash Finch so harshly did the same thing to his predecessors.
Let’s look at one of Mayor Finch’s mailings. He states: Over the last 4 years, I’ve worked hard to deliver results. Here are just some of the things we have accomplished:
– Revitalized our downtown with the first construction in 25 years, adding hundreds of new residents and dozens of new business.
– Held down taxes, reducing spending, and streaming government all three years–and I took a personal paycut every year.
– Open 5 new public schools with plans to build the city’s first new high school in nearly fifty years, providing 1000 new seats to Bridgeport students,
– Reduced violent crime rates by hiring a new police chief, adding 25 new officers and opening new police precincts,
– Created economic development opportunities by dramatically increasing access to our waterfront.
This is what the mayor mailed out; seeing NONE of his supporters would say what the mayor has done, I’ve done it for you. Now let the games begin.
I did a fact checker post yesterday on some of the economic development points in this Finch flyer. Finch didn’t have much in the truth column. He cannot take credit for the hundreds of new residents in City Trust, Arcade and 144 Golden Hill. The newly constructed building on the corner of Lafayette and Fairfield broke ground under Fabrizi and is 83 units I think with about 60% rented. That does not add up to hundreds of new residents due to Finch.
The work Finch is doing along a small section of Knowlton Street to implement waterfront access does go in his plus column. The 2008 ten-year Master Plan implemented under Fabrizi’s PZC led by Pat Fardy put waterfront access into official policy and made it a priority. The new zoning regs developed under Pat Fardy’s leadership from 2006-2008 took two more years to be adopted because Finch threw Pat Fardy off the Board in 2008 and most of the members have been serving in expired terms. BEACON2 posted information on all the expired board members on all of the boards in an earlier post. There really isn’t a good reason for having volunteers serving on boards in expired terms. Those 2010 zoning regs finally give waterfront access and easements priority. So the Acme donation of land and the new waterfront access for the East Side do go into Finch’s column. They haven’t broken ground over there. The ugly abandoned building still stands. The pictures are pretty but why is it taking so long?
Gotta go back and continue canvassing for MJF! Lots of positive reform energy; refreshing actually! Winds of change are upon us.
Mr. Mackey, since you’ve summed it all up for us as nicely as you did, no need to elaborate. It speaks for itself. Well done!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Mackey has just laid out the FACTS! Strong Leadership and a vision for the City of Bridgeport is what Finch delivers and will continue to deliver. Did you guys know MJF had her house for sale before she decided to run for Mayor? That doesn’t sound like somebody who believes in Bridgeport.
Mary
Actually, Jack and Mary-Jane were thinking of downsizing since all of their kids are grown up now. They were looking at the residential opportunities downtown as have many empty-nesters so they don’t have to worry about snow to plow, gutters to clean and grass to cut.
Of course Mary-Jane believes in Bridgeport. She has invested her own money in the City. She has worked in the City for many years. She is running for Mayor because she wants everyone to believe in Bridgeport; a Bridgeport that isn’t drowning in conflicts of interest; a Bridgeport that must have a true and honest budget; a Bridgeport that must get its political; fiscal and education house in order. Yes Mary, Mary-Jane Foster totally believes in Bridgeport.
Mary_Choen95, hold up; I just got this new mailing from the mayor. It reads, “While nearly all neighboring communities have raised their taxes during these tough economic times, our prudent action has resulted in a flat mil rate, lowered spending and no tax increase for Bridgeport residents.”–Mayor Bill Finch.
WOW!!! Didn’t we just hear that statement from the “Tea Party” and the “Right Wing Republicans” for the past month on national TV?
The mailing shows a map with Monroe, Easton, Trumbull, Stratford, Fairfield and Wesport, now you tell me who has a better school system, who has a better quality life and in which town would you like to live, Bridgeport? For the residents of Monroe, Easton, Trumbull, Stratford, Fairfield and Wesport, you need to relocate to Bridgeport because our taxes didn’t go up under this mayor.
How does Mayor Finch lower violent crime by hiring a new police chief and hiring 25 new officers? Crimes goes down by hiring a new police chief, now that’s deep & 25 rookies who are in training, let’s ask the residents of Bridgeport if they feel safe with only 21 police cars on duty at any one time of the day during a police shift.
Ron–lets face FACTS here. Violent crime is down. Bridgeport came in way behind the major cities in crimes according to the FBI. If I am not mistaken Mary-Jane and crew are the ones preaching Tea Party fear tactics. So it isn’t safe to be downtown? Cutting off your nose to spite your face, no?
countdown–Mary and Jack were also looking at places in Fairfield, Westport and Darien as well. Let’s not fake the funk here. I know realtors. Word gets around.
Mary_Choen95, all one has to do is to ask those who live in the East End or PT Barnum or in the Hollow or the upper East End or on Trumbull Ave. do they feel safe. Has there been an increase in police cars on duty from 21? NO. One the FBI does not measure are those citizens who are fearful of reporting crime in their neighborhood because the police don’t come because they are out on other calls.
Mary–coincidentally, I heard the same thing; we must know the same realtor. As far as downtown, things have never looked better since I can remember. People enjoying concerts, Main & State Sts. paved, new bars and restaurants and new apartments filling up with people. Now that’s progress!
