UB Students, City Firefighters To Build Playground In Memory Of Sandy Hook Victims

The University of Bridgeport is proud to announce that several of its student groups will team up with Bridgeport Firefighters Local 834 to build a playground in memory of student Josephine Grace Gay who was killed last year at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

The playground is part of the Where Angels Play initiative; volunteers in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York coastline communities are building 26 playgrounds named after those who were killed last December 14. Construction of the Josephine Grace Gay Playground begins on Friday, December 6 at section 6 Seaside Park in Bridgeport. The playground will be opened at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 11. UB student volunteers from Lambda Sigma Upsilon fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, members of Alternative Spring Break and WEACT student members will help unload supplies and constructing the play space on December 6 and December 7. Sodexo Dining Services from UB and Lorenzo’s restaurant will provide drinks and sandwiches for the volunteers.
