At the age of 104, great-great grandmother Ernesta Garcia maintains some steady habits. She has her hair colored. She gets her nails painted. And she always votes for fellow Democrats. Accustomed in her later years to visits from the mayor and other dignitaries honoring her on her Nov. 7 birthday, for several months this East Side grande dame has unknowingly received some unwanted attention. Garcia was involved in a state elections probe that could have altered the outcome of a hotly contested City Council race.
In September 2013–when Garcia was a mere 102–several Democrats faced-off in a primary for seats on the City Council and school board.
