Tit For Tat – The Fur Flies In East End City Council Battle, Gomes Fires First, Ganim Supporters Fire Back

You ping Ernie Newton and Eneida Martinez, they pong back. That’s the East End way.

No one’s immune from criticism in city politics, especially from those who have something of a past themselves…and draw first blood.

Four weeks from a Democratic primary for mayor including other key municipal offices such as City Council, two long-time representatives of the East End, Newton and Martinez, once again are teaming up. They have long squabbled with Upper East Side Council member Maria Pereira who they claim is the source behind an inflammatory flyer against them and Mayor Joe Ganim whom they support for reelection.

Pereira, for years, has dropped surreptitious hit pieces without any attribution, but after a while the rigid signature language becomes obvious.

This cycle, after declaring she would never support John Gomes for any public office, Pereira’s doing just that, for mayor. That’s the way it goes in politics, say this and do that. Pereira loves being the minister of mayhem. Her recent record, however, supporting losing candidates is now cringe-worthy.

She’s also supported people with a past, such as Ganim, then turns on them when convenient.

Check out this race-baiting piece to a largely Black audience:

Newton responded on his Facebook page:

Let me say this about the flyer being past out in my district. Sen. Moore nor Mr. Daniel(s) would never allow people working for their campaign to ever mail or pass out anything like that. Ms. Maria Pereira wrote all this information on this flyer. She works for the Gomes campaign as a paid employee. The money behind Gomes’s campaign is John Ricci who has cost the taxpayers of the City of Bridgeport 140,000 dollars we have to pay to settle a lawsuit because of his alleged sexual harassment. If theses are the type of people Mr. Gomes who’s running for mayor God help us all. The Army is Coming. Men and women who have been to prison who are now productive members of Society!

Newton added:

This is Guy John Ricci the money man behind the John Gomes campaign. He’s also the person who allow Harry Carrillo who doesn’t live in our district to use one of his properties for address for Mr. Carrillo so he couldn’t run for city council after lying that he lived on central Ave. This is the the guy that van paid Niki Tate to pass out that B.S. theses are the type of people John Gomes has surrounded himself with.

John Ricci, then-Public Facilities Director for the City of Bridgeport, July 18, 2016.

John Ricci, once with Ganim, now with Gomes.

Leslie Caraballo responded on her own page:

John Gomes and his supporters let’s do better- PLEASE!!!! BECAUSE YOUR LETTER OFFENDED ME BECAUSE I AM THE DEFINITION OF A CONVICTED FELON WHO HAS CHANGED FOR THE BETTER and it looks like you got a run in with the law as well – so please 🙄 let’s stop trying to point the speck in someone else’s eye before removing the log in yours🤜🤛 and best part is I am hopeful that you will publicly apologize and be the bigger man, acknowledge your wrong and do better 💝 if you need assistance write my org an email – accomplishingrealchangect@gmail.com
We would be more than happy to see how we can assist.
Eneida Martinez as well:
A day after they sent negative literature about Ernest Newton and I. Can’t throw stones if you sit on the same hot seat. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Then she added this from the CT Post about former Ganim supporter John Ricci now backing Gomes:
A local woman, who claimed she was denied a permanent job with the city because she rebuffed sexual advances by former Public Facilities Director John Ricci, has been awarded $140,000 by a federal jury.
Ricci, a former ally of Mayor Joe Ganim who is now associated with the mayoral campaign of John Gomes, has had a long history in the city.
And, to boot, this story about Gomes pinched in a 2009 scuffle, then eventually was fired by the Finch administration, returned by Ganim, fired by Ganim and now running against Ganim.
Don’t ya love city politics!

  1. Ernie and Eneida are like bears in every sense – from their nurturing and caring side for those they represent, to their “defensive attacking” when poked or hit.

You don’t poke at Ernie and Eneida and expect to go unscathed.

Dirty politics. If these flyers went into mailboxes, the CT postmaster general should be contacted as well. Federal crime.

    1. @LOCAL EYES here you go again with your shenanigans. Harry Carrillo who is suppose to be an evangelist, as I stated suppose to be EVANGELIST is the biggest liar at hand. He needs to re-district his biblical studies to see if during his biblical classes they educated him on how to be a con-artist. He lied three different times. He endangered the living stability of his sister in law 1st. As of August 11, 2023 he now lives at 138 Mill Hill Avenue one of John Ricci property. But still opens and closes the doors at 33 Boston Terrace unit 11. His approach in running for office shows that if he can falsely document an address, and endanger someones housing voucher, he will do anything for his own well-being and not that of the community. So in closing his heart and soul is in the pit of the DEVIL. Now have a GOOD NIGHT! I said what I said…

      1. You act as if we have a longstanding blog relationship — we don’t.
You act as if Harry Carrillo is an agent of the devil — he is not.
You act as if you are a wise judge of character — you are not.
You act as if you know more about Bridgeport politics than I do — you don’t..
If you disagree, your next post is your chance to prove me wrong.

  2. Local Eyes you have a great night. I am not a clown to entertain you on OIB, my actions will prove different. You don’t know what I know about politics. Don’t think I just came out the wood works like your CANDIDATES. PEACE! STAY TUNED…

  3. Does it always get reduced to Sex, Money, and Power (or a combination of two or three) and an unhitched moral compass to create Only in Bridgeport stories? You tell me.

I am not certain, but in the story above sexual behavior shows up in a court case, alleged by a part time younger political activist who is offered a part time position with the Lighthouse Program apparently. Over a period of time, she is noticed, then claims uncomfortable harassment and is presented at last with an ultimatum to cease from complaining by a supervisor (with a notice to the Commission on Human Rights) and is promptly terminated. SEX is part of this first act.

The next act moves to CHRO and then to Federal Court which brings in the POWER through legal representation. At this point in the action, apparently Ricci is left on the sideline,s for a reason I wish to firmly understand. (One wise long-term observer tipped me off to MONEY, as in the City has access to deeper pockets than the alleged perpetrator, Ricci.)

The jury felt Ricci as witnessed in the court had been offensive to the plaintiff to the tune of $140,000, a sum that is awaiting legal fees and court expenses from the judge. How much? Why? How often does this breakdown of Bridgeport employer-employee relations happen? What does it make lower level employees suffer without necessity? And taxpayers suffer financially with never a peep? SEX, MONEY, POWER running through too many employee complaints, at too great a cost?

Why is Bridgeport absent from basic quality employer-employee rules, processes, and practices at such unnecessary expense to many? Civil Service? Labor relations? Do we maintain long term positions that have acted as role models of historically good and effective governance? What has Ganim2 done about it? You already know, don’t you?. Time will tell.

  4. Wow!! There have to be Lamond Daniels moles working in the Ganim and Gomes camps. With the Moore campaign wandering around the Twilight Zone (predictably), led by no-one in particular and supported by Generation Q-primed/Generation Q-primed Votes Absentee, and the Ganim and Gomes campaigns doing a great job exposing each other’s gangrenous tentacles to the Bridgeport electorate, all that Lamond Daniels needs to win in November and become Bridgeport’s next mayor is an appropriate, coherent, comprehensive message, a modicum of effort to get it out to the voting public, and the Working Families endorsement and position on the ballot…

Are you there, Lamond?! (They’re holding the doors to both City Halls open for you!…)

  5. Senator Moore has indeed served Trumbull and Monroe well. You have gotten what you paid for… Bridgeport; not so much… She has allowed upstream development in Trumbull and Monroe to contribute, mightily, in synergy with the “SHU effect,” to destroy Lake Forest and the rest of the North End…

Bridgeport needs a new mayor and a new senator for the 22nd GA district…
