Testani Weighs Reboot Of High School Basketball Season

Superintendent of Schools Michael Testani may take his finger off the pause button if a number of logistical issues can be worked out to commence varsity boys and girls basketball in the FCIAC.

High school basketball coaches met with Testani on Friday to discuss measures to advance the season scheduled to begin Feb. 10.

Last week, the Board of Education heard from residents and students urging a basketball season. Testani said he “didn’t feel comfortable putting a child at risk” during the public health scare.

It appeared the season was cancelled but during the meeting with coaches on Friday Testani clarified he put a pause on the season, not a cancellation.

So now a number of logistical protocols must be met in the upcoming week to move forward with a final determination including safety measures and scheduling.

  1. I just have to say. Don’t understand much about high school sports are how it’s organized or the overall state’s position on canceling athletics sports, but it seems the decision to Ports public high schools cancelation of Port’s basketball was a local decision by the superintendent and agreed too by the board without “democracy” vote.

The Port has four high schools that are the preliminary minority. I have not read or hear about other “white” suburban school districts canceling their basketball season. If there is even an option to resume the season you have to assume other schools in the FCIAC, another league, and division are having their schools play, who we can assume are “white” school districts.

Then not only did we just witness a racist, injustice system/decision from the members of the BBOE who failed to vote on it and express their disagreement with the cancelation but you (BBOE members) and those groups who always are campaigning for the Port minority students, (you know who you are) are also complicit in that racist decision to deprive minority students while white students play. JS

    To be fair

Unless you feel like minorities, who have been hit harder with this Covid crisis and your view on canceling high school sports while “white” districts don’t, is because of your concern of the disparity of covid and you are taking this action to cancel high school basketball out of an abundance of caution solely because of the minority status in relation to covid effects and treatment on minorities (Port student-athletes)

However, I highly doubt that. JS

  2. This guys just like his cousin Fabrizi.
HE CAN NOT MAKE UP HIS MIND.
Get rid of this guy or he’ll destroy our public school just like Fabrizi destroyed our city.

  3. Last point before I am out of here.

Think of it this way, people. For the most part, all we hear about is funding from this group or that group. It’s simple math and easy to see. The student-teacher ratio is similar throughout., and the lower the student body the higher the spent per student. While there are many factors in one education, policies and agendas by school boards are significant.

You just witness BBOE depriving Port students to play basketball. . What else are/can/how they are depriving Port’s students? I mean if it wasn’t for this pandemic Port students wouldn’t even have computers with education adding software like the ‘white” counterparts, who seeming are playing basketball. That is just a fact, and that policy, not just funding. Just like the “no vote” on allowing Port students to play basketball that other “white” districts seem to be doing.

But you keep up the charge/fight to get a school renamed or a removal of a statute in the name of “white supremacy” that has no real bearing on any of the student education or well-being. To all those BBOE who didn’t speak up for the students, shame on you. Thanks to the alleged kidnapper board member who doesn’t even live in the Port for asking for a vote to allow the students play.

BBOE, here’s a marketing tip. When an alleged out of towner/ alledged kidnapper is the sole person on the board to speak up for the student-athletes. Spend the “funding” to hire a professional to conceal your shadiness and make it look like you care about the students and their education system. JS

  4. Here’s the solution:
    I didn’t say I was original, did I?
    Try a NBA-style BUBBLE.
Players volunteer and all games are played without fans but “televised” via Zoom or wireless phones.
Games get played, fans have a chance to watch, internships are formed and BPS shows how it handles a pandemic.

  5. This is as stupid as Michael Testani being appointed as Superintendent of Schools. We know that kids are dying from covid and that was prior to the advent of the different variants like the UK and the even more deadly South Africa variant. The only way to have zero risk of catching or spreading COVID-19 from youth sports is not to play them. Kids are in the closed confines of a gym, shouting and yelling for their teammates which is the primary way Covid-19 is spread.

When will Bridgeport’s BOE and it’s Superintendent of School ever act in the best interest of the children, like they would do their own. Michael Testani is making decisions that could kill the children of Bridgeport when he has none in the position to die from his imbecilic decisions.

    1. How many? Probably more kids die of the flu each year. I will not deny there are risks but so say some of those students who are looking for scholarships, college, etc. should not play while other white school districts play seems racist. I have been watching a coach on my Facebook page who streams his basketball program live all summer at BJ Park on Madison Ave. I even witness a BBOE member speak to them at one of those practices, don’t care to say what was said, but it wasn’t shut this program down out of the risk of covid.

P.S 3 for what I gather. If you feel black/minority students should be shut down and shut out while white students play, who are taking the same risk, while I refer to the link above. JS comrade
