News release from the Fish:

Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced that they have formally offered former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow a contract to play for the team during the 2016 season.

“The Bluefish welcome Tim with open arms,” said Bluefish General Manager Jamie Toole. “The Atlantic League is all about giving players opportunity, and we think Bridgeport would be a great place for him to begin his professional

Tebow, the former professional football player, played three seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. He recently announced his desire to play professional baseball and was given the opportunity to participate in a workout with MLB scouts earlier this week. During his workout with over 40 scouts from 28 Major League clubs, he hit five home runs in batting practice and recorded an “above average” time in the 60-yard dash. Tim focused on showcasing his outfield skills during the workout, and also faced live pitching from former Major Leaguers David Aardsma and Chad Smith.

Tim Tebow will be called up to the Bridgeport Bluefish roster, effective immediately upon his acceptance and contract signing.

  1. Tim Tebow would be an excellent role model for our kids and would be an asset to our community. Both morally and financially (an uptick in ticket sales).

  2. I don’t know how much this excites anyone else on OIB, but with the rash of violent crimes in Bridgeport lately, it does me. Very few men can have such an impact on a community but check out his bio. He is a positive role model, a great Christian and an outstanding citizen. If we can keep him this year and maybe next I’m sure we would see an impact.

  3. Frank, doesn’t the man have a right to make a living? And how much is he going to make playing for the Bluefish, $1000 a month before taxes?
Your statement is idiotic and hateful. When was the last time you went on a year-long ministry across the world to help the poor?

    1. Quentin, he certainly has a right to make a living. My statement is not hateful, it may be cynical. Tebow has become a celebrity and he needs to keep that dynamic going. Quentin, have you gone on a one-year-long ministry? And why is that a standard? Does a one-year ministry make us become a better person? I have found the minute-to-minute, day-to-day actions of a person are a greater reflection of whether or not they are a better “Christian.”

  4. Definitely cynical, but this city has enough cynicism. We need help in whatever form it comes. Sometimes God puts the answers right in front of us, but our cynicism blinds us. You’re right, our daily actions make us the person we are.
A little advice I received when I was a young from Father Constantio the Pastor at Holy Rosary Church; “Son, you get nothing extra in the eyes of the Lord for doing what you are supposed to do.”
In other words; we’re supposed to be good to each other. It’s what we as Christians do above and beyond that God notices.
FYI, Franklin Gram will be in Hartford tomorrow at noon. Check out Samaritan’s Purse.

  5. We absolutely agree here! And I think we probably agree more often than we realize, but we’re still learning each other’s language and so we don’t realize it until we take the time to translate. And otherwise, I do believe in any event we generally have the same objectives, even if our approaches are a bit different.
