Speedy Gonzalez Protests CT Post

Joel Gonzalez points the finger at a morning protest

Former City Councilman Joel “Speedy” Gonzalez is upset he hasn’t landed a blog gig from the CT Post and conducted a morning protest in front of Post headquarters at 410 State Street. He claims they haven’t lived up to a commitment. The Post models its blogs after the San Francisco Chronicle concept, mothership paper of Hearst Newspapers which owns the Post and features a cross-section of community contributors on their areas of expertise. I write a column for the Post once or twice a week. The Post does not compensate non-staff contributors, but it provides a platform to share views and drive additional traffic to places such as OIB. From Speedy Gonzalez:

Lennie, I have the required permit, signs and time to protest in front of the CT Post at 410 State Street, Bpt. Starting around 8 or 9 a.m. Monday Nov 15, 2010.

The sign reads:

NO Equal Opportunity Blog Hosting at CT Post.com.

The gripe is over the CT Post failure to keep a commitment made on January 25, 2010 to me by Keith Whamond of Hearst Media. You can help me by having the balls to post the matter. I’ll try to be there before 9 a.m. Monday … PS bring me coffee if you come by.

  1. Thanks Lennie for picking up the story. This matter has been in play since September 2009. After many attempts, I received some instructions from Keith Whamond, Executive Producer for Hearst Connecticut Media Group as to what I had to do for the blog to be set up. I did all that was asked of me. After a few weeks, I again trie getting in contact with Whamond to see what happened and the last time I got Mr. Whamond on the phone, he made it clear that my calls and e-mails kind of pissed him off.
How can you guys help and perhaps piss him off some more?
    You can e-mail him at:
    kwhamond@connecticutmediagroup.com
    You can call him:

    c: 203-450-7905

The Press is reluctant to run this story, because it opens up the potential of a Supreme Court ruling that may affect the Press. Paging Ned Lamont and Tom Foley. Is it fair for the CT Post to have provided Dan Malloy with a free blog and not afford the other candidates an opportunity to do the same? See this:
