Police Chief: Expect Gridlock Downtown

From Mayor Bill Finch:

Statement from Mayor Bill Finch re: Obama Visit

“We are eagerly awaiting President Obama’s visit to our City on Saturday. We are delighted that he chose to come to Bridgeport, and we expect his appearance here should encourage more people to get out and vote on Tuesday.”

From Chief Gaudett

“If at all possible, we urge everyone who is planning to attend the rally at the Arena to use public transportation – the bus and train station are a short walk from the Arena. We expect gridlock on downtown streets in the vicinity of the arena, so, if you plan to drive you should arrive early. Police officers will be posted at major intersections to direct traffic. Please cooperate with their instructions so we can maintain order and keep everyone safe.”

  1. What a bunch of a-holes. This is going to end up being a real cluster f*ck. Hey! You had over 8 thousand on opening night of Sound Tigers!!!

“Please cooperate with their instructions so we can maintain order and keep everyone safe.”

Great PR piece! Surprise! It’s Bridgeport!!!

  2. Why not have everyone park away from downtown (plenty of vacant lots around steel point) and use shuttles to bring people to the arena? That would reduce the gridlock downtown. But then again, that would require some forward thinking and common sense.

I hope OIB readers can see that it’s not about Bridgeport. It’s about a Democratic Party that’s desperate as consequence of its failure. Had it been about Bridgeport, the visitors would have been encouraged to stay in downtown and patronize shops, bars, and restaurants. Just close the streets, brilliant!

  5. Gaudett thinks this is part of the Police Chief’s test.
    Qualifications
    5) Having demonstrated an ability to direct traffic during a presidential visit.

Knowing how bad BPD has handled traffic down there, they will probably refuse to allow the presidential motorcade through.

And to chs they can’t use Steel Point in case Christoph starts his infrastructure construction today. There’s nothing holding him back now. Not even a presidential visit!!!

Gaudett’s statement is the exact reason why he should not be chosen as the police chief.
While it’s nice to have the President in Bridgeport I hope we don’t come out of this looking bad.

  8. TC on other posts chs never said you and your age group are racist only that people her parents’ age might not be as ready to accept a Black President. I am 65 is that your age group? I accept him and anyone who can lead and not obstruct the advancement of our country by using scare tactics (socialism, not a citizen, hates whites you name it they have used it) all to change the subject, that they had their turn driving the car and drove into the ditch. Now let the President take the car to the repair shop get it fixed and let him drive it for a little while and see if he can keep it on the road they certainly didn’t. Let him use a full tank of gas. The Republicans filled it up for 8 years and couldn’t get it out of drive it only had reverse. They didn’t go to driving school so what makes anyone believe they can drive the car any better than before?

    1. I know Obama is the president and I respect him and the office. I don’t agree with everything he or the congress has done and I don’t disagree with everything he has done. Personally I think he has tried to do too much at one time. I understand all presidents really get the majority of their platform done in the first 2 years of their presidential term.
I want his programs to concentrate on putting people to work. I am a firm believer that people need to work so they can feel good about themselves and can feel they are moving ahead. If this was accomplished by this administration I would have no bitches; to date this has not happened.
I am glad he came to Bpt and I am glad it was a packed house and that Bpt presented a positive image to the president and to the nation. I hope you had a good day.

  9. The event was great. I think Malloy was the best speaker besides the president. Himes and Blumie seemed to lose the crowd a little, but they closed well. The place erupted when the President came out.

    Great day for Bridgeport!
