Note To Pols: Careful What You Write On Facebook

Cougar
Don't mess with Jenny Lynne

Oh my, if you’re seeking public office, just two weeks away from the election, be really really careful what you post on Facebook. Republican candidate for State Senate David Pia, challenging Democrat Anthony Musto, took a clawing from OIB friend Jenny Lynne in her Connecticut Post column 181 State of the City after Pia wrote this:

… time will tell – I really need every vote we can get – Bridgeport is 5 – 1 Dem to Republican … and they cheat!

When it comes to Bridgeport Jenny is like a cougar protecting her cubs. How do you spell cat-scratch fever? Pia, who has issued an apology on Jenny’s page, ran into this rejoinder:

Dear David Pia:

You must’ve not gotten the memo that just because you friend-ed someone on facebook, it doesn’t mean they are really your friend … starting with me. Let me clarify my problem with you.

Yesterday, October 15 2010 at approximately 8pm you posted this on Facebook: David Pia time will tell – I really need every vote we can get – Bridgeport is 5 – 1 Dem to Republican … and they cheat!

Look familiar?

I’m guessing for the sake of everyone involved its a good thing I have such a strong command of the English language or this letter would read like a sailors diary.

First and foremost let me remind you that in your run for the 22nd Senate District, it’s a really stupid move to insult the very constituents you plan on representing. Your campaign manager is probably face down in a paper bag, hyperventilating as we speak. I mean, Howard Dean lost his presidential Bid just from doing a weird yahoo victory scream. You on the other hand have flat out defamed the 140,000 who call the City of Bridgeport their home and not just once, but twice … don’t forget you re-clarified your point by saying that dead people vote about 1pm this afternoon. Was that before or after you were at a BPT candidate’s forum? Maybe you were able to squeeze it in before pumpkin picking in Monroe.

Just in case you forgot David, when you become a Senator, it doesn’t mean you’re famous … it just means you’re a public servant. You know, like you get hired to serve me. I don’t know about you, but I’m not about to let my house keeper talk smack about my family.

As for your ignorance, it needs not be dignified with an explanation or modification. If you truly believe your candidacy will be defined by myths and urban legends, then you probably should’ve just stayed put in your family business. My Senator will know that honesty, diligence, and commitment defines the process and at this point the only thing anyone that wants to represent Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Monroe should be doing is kissing babies and kissing ass.

You lost my hypothetical vote. I am a proud, registered Democrat who is strong and independent enough to cross the line. This woman votes best man for the job and you sir, are not that man.

Bridgeport doesn’t cheat, and we also don’t take it on the chin. You messed up and you owe me and mine an apology.

My loyalty lies with my City.

Pia and Musto, two nice Italian American boys, have oathed a political blood-brothers agreement to avoid negative attacks. Boring!!! C’mon guys, can’t ya just mix it up a little bit? Musto’s State Senate seat includes all of Trumbull and portions of Bridgeport and Monroe.

Pia’s comment takes me back to 1991 when Democrat Joe Ganim challenged Republican Mayor Mary Moran. Joe told an old political warhorse he was concerned about GOP absentee ballot cheating. The long-in-the-tooth pol replied, “Don’t worry Joe, all the cheaters are working for you.”

Such nice boys.

  1. *** It’s nothing new, disrespect Bpt while outside the city limits only to come back to ask for voter support! We need a good candidate from Bpt not the ‘burbs. Pick your poison on election day, Pia or Musto. *** SOS ***

  2. I’m a Bridgeport Dem—Born, raised, went to college in Bridgeport, still live in Bridgeport—and I agree with Pia even though I vote Musto—plenty of cheating Dems—it is what it is.

Gonna be a lot of money being passed around to buy votes next summer—that’s cheating, right?
