Meet Lesly Valbrun, New Leader Of Greater Bridgeport NAACP

From Eddy Martinez, CT Post:

Lesly Valbrun is the new president of the Greater Bridgeport NAACP and while he’s not well known yet among local politicians and officials, he sees his relative obscurity as an opportunity.

“I don’t see it as a challenge. I see it as an opportunity to meet people and to do good by our community,” Valbrun said.

Valbrun succeeded Rev. Stanley Lord who died in December. Valbrun is planning to make his own mark on the venerable civil rights organization, with financial literacy and youth outreach efforts.

Reaching young people was key to the organization’s relevancy, he said. He embraces the challenge of teaching youth about civic engagement and including knowing their rights under the law.

“We want to make sure that the next generation of leadership is strong. That they’re competent, that they’re confident and that they have character,” Valbrun said.
