From Communications Director Brett Broesder:
In preparation for adverse weather conditions expected to the area on Saturday, Mayor Bill Finch has declared a Snow Emergency to begin at 8:00PM, Friday, January 23.
During a Snow Emergency, residents must move their cars off posted Snow Emergency streets or be subject to fines and towing. Alternate-side-of-the-street parking rules are in effect for all other streets throughout the City in order to allow snow plow drivers’ clear passage. To comply with the Snow Emergency Alternate-Side-of-the-Street Parking Rules, residents must move their cars to the ‘even-numbered’ side of the street by 8 p.m., Friday, January 23, and remain on the even-numbered side of the street until further notice. (House numbers ending in 0,2,4,6, and 8 constitute the even-numbered side of the street.)
“We’re ready to keep our roads safe at all times,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “Our trucks with snowplows and salt spreaders are ready to tackle whatever weather conditions come our way. To help our crews keep our streets safe, we’re asking all residents to please obey the Snow Emergency rules.
For the latest updates, resources and information about the snowstorm, residents are asked to check www.bridgeportct.gov/snow, local television and radio news outlets and follow the City of Bridgeport on Twitter and Facebook and Mayor Bill Finch on Twitter and Facebook.
During the storm, residents may use all Bridgeport Public School parking lots to move their cars off the street.
Snow Emergency streets are marked with white signs with red lettering. A list of Snow Emergency streets can be found on the City’s website–www.bridgeportct.gov/snowemergencystreets. No parking is allowed on Snow Emergency streets. Vehicles left on Snow Emergency streets after the Snow Emergency goes into effect will be subject to fines and towing.
During the storm, residents with non-emergency, weather-related questions or concerns should call the City’s BConnected Call Center at 203.576.1311 or the Emergency Operations Center at 203.579.3829. Residents can use the City’s BConnected request system online at www.bridgeportct.gov/bconnected or on the BConnected mobile application available on iPhone or Android smartphones to report any snow-related concerns.
Note from Bridgeport Police Dept.: Vehicles left parked on Snow Emergency streets will be subject to tagging and towing. Violating the alternate-side of the street parking rules also will result in fines. A list of Snow Emergency streets can be found on the City’s website by following this link: www.bridgeportct.gov/snowemergencystreets.
Well the voters call a DeJesus emergency. Park your vote on the honest side of the ballot or prepare for another snowjob.
Vote for Ed Gomes.
Good post, Bond Girl.
And good night, OIB.
Around 7:10 AM the snowplow took two passes on my street and the pile at the end of the driveway was slight enough to back through. Now the rain on 4-5 inches of light snow is making fit heavy. But this was good service for our street.
I want the Mayor and all the public service employees to know it is noted and appreciated. My snow shovel at City meetings and parades is a “universal reminder” the public is out there expecting effort and quality in municipal governance. It failed in a true snow emergency a couple years ago. The Mayor listened to emotions and never reported what had failed.
Some will say the “proof is in the pudding” with the service today. But keeping the people in the loop and the remedies necessary for so many municipal activities will keep me questioning for the present. I am off to another part of the City for breakfast with a friend. Let’s see how another neighborhood has been served. Time will tell.
The city did a good job. It was nice to see another positive post. I think the dept. of public works deserve a pat on the back!
John Marshall Lee, why are you giving credit for people doing their job and that snowfall was nothing, now let’s see how Mayor Finch handles this new snowstorm.
