Mayor Attends Conference Of Mayors Meeting In Vegas This Weekend

From Mayor Bill Finch:

This weekend, Mayor Bill Finch will join Vice President Joe Biden, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Deputy Secretary Maurice Jones and 200 mayors from across the country including Connecticut Mayors Pedro Segarra, Hartford and Neil O’Leary, Waterbury at the 81st Annual Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

“Through my involvement in the U.S. Conference of Mayors, I am able to showcase some of the innovative strategies we are implementing in Bridgeport to a national audience, while having an open dialogue and discussion with my peers from across the country,” said Mayor Finch. “The insight gained from exchanging ideas and discussing best practices with my fellow mayors is very beneficial.”

During the meeting, mayors from all over the country will come together to discuss public policy issues impacting residents in cities large and small. The economic health of the nation’s cities, immigration, the ongoing violence in America’s cities, school safety, municipal bonds, energy efficiency, infrastructure investment, housing and help for returning veterans top this year’s agenda.

Mayor Finch will participate in several panel discussions and will make a presentation during the “Rebranding Your City,” and “Energy Improvement Districts” panels. Mayor Finch serves as a member of the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Advisory Committee and co-chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Energy Independence and Climate Protection Task Force

On the final day of the meeting, mayors will debate and vote on policy resolutions to forward to Congress and the Administration in the hopes of shaping federal legislation.

“The U.S. Conference of Mayors advocates for the cities across the country with the federal government, making sure that leadership in Washington, D.C., is aware of the issues that are most important to mayors and their residents,” said Mayor Finch.

Mayor Finch has submitted several proposed resolutions that address education including: “Priorities for Investing in High Quality Preschool” and “U.S. Conference of Mayors Priorities For Smarter Spending on Our Cities’ Schools.” Approved resolutions will be available at www.usmayors.org following the meeting.

    1. In fact Finch could come here to Tucson and try to sell his snow removal plan … as Tucson got only a light dusting this year from what people have told me it would be a great success.

  1. We are so fortunate to have such a brilliant, smart and articulate mayor here in Bridgeport. I’m sure Mayor Finch will share with other mayors from across America his emergency snow removable plan and his airport expansion of a private road. Don’t they call Vegas “sin city,” and remember “whatever happens in Vegas (Bridgeport) stays in Vegas.” Hopefully Vice President Joe Biden can find a nice do-nothing position for Finch in Washington.

  2. And how much is this little rip-off, typo, trip off to Vegas costing the taxpayers???
Who else is in the mayor’s posse?
How much will we spend for airfare, hotel rooms, food and entertainment?
I have nothing against the mayor going but we deserve full financial disclosure.
